While RP is a pretendy game, I like to base it in fact whenever it fits. Also, I enjoy learning things I'd otherwise never have reason to look into.

Tonight there was RL conflict, so I wasn't able to do a RP scene. I made an IC excuse for it: Thistle had to take care of a sick animal on the farm (a yak). I wanted to write a pre-bed message, something like "Yaks throw up a lot when they're sick", but then I paused and wondered if yaks can throw up.

So off to google! I searched "can yaks vomit", quotes included. No results! I've found a question that no one has wondered enough to post online where Google can access it! (Though now I guess my LJ will come up when someone searches for it. Way to spoil it, self!)

I have no idea if cow stomachs and yak stomachs are enough alike to apply cow to yak, but for the sake of getting to bed, I'm going to say so.

Farms: The best thing that have happened to WoW. :P

Technically, cows can't vomit since they can't bring up food from their "true stomach" (abomasum). However since they have other "stomachs" that are technically part of the esophagus (the reticulum and rumen) which they can bring up food from. However since it's not from the stomach it is considered regurgitation and not vomit. Cows and Yaks are part of the family Bovid which are classified as having, among other things, 4 chambered stomachs. So both could regurgitate but not really vomit. However since the difference between regurgitation and vomiting is splitting hairs: Yes, Yaks can yak :P

I visited wiki after making this post and learned all sorts of things about yaks! I also named the IC yak after the scientific name, Bos (Bos grunniens), though Thistle misunderstood and thinks the name is Boss.

That's what I came to, too. So they can vomit, but it's not exactly vomit. Plus they swallow it again.

In conclusion: Cows are gross. :P
