I've never before seriously considered leaving LJ. I have a permanent account, which means I paid $125? $150? to be here. I've been posting near-daily (sometimes more than daily!) since August of 2002. That's a darned lot of history.

I know LJ's connection/loading issues are for a "good cause". They let some Russian political people post what they like, and others don't like that, so they launch DoS attacks. That's gone on many times in the past, that's going on now.

I've been patient. I've been loyal. But I'm nearing the end of my rope.

No other site I visit on the net has as many issues as LJ. Tumblr and Twitter both must get a ton more traffic, but both are a lot more stable. I assume Facebook is as well, or I'd hear complaining about it.

Part of the thing that will keep me from leaving is I don't know where I'd go. I don't want to go to DW (I know it's lasted a while, but it reminds me of Insane Journal and the handful of other blogging sites people said would replace LJ). I dislike Tumblr for anything other than reposting fluff. I wouldn't touch Facebook with a ten foot pole.

I suppose I'll stay and ride this trouble out, but unfortunately my friends list is getting quieter and quieter, which doesn't help things. I know I should venture out and find new people to friend, but I've forgotten how. Not being in any fandoms has reduced my contact with outside folks.

Now let's see if this will actually post...

Don't know if it helps-- but I am staying too. I like it here.

Good! There really is no place like LJ. Hopefully the connection troubles will be over for a while.

I used to hate the idea of Facebook too, but once I realize it's one of the best tools a friendly introvert can have, I found I liked it a lot more. I can be cheerful and keep up with people I know without actually having to talk to them in person! I'M FREE!!

You can, like, crosspost between DW and LJ, y'know...

This, exactly. I post to DW (both my actual journal and my log-journals) and just have it cross-post to LJ. Easier that way.

I like DW a lot more. At least I don't get spam comments there. :/

I like LJ a lot more than DW (when it works...) plus yesterday I discovered an odd thing: Two posts, cross posted between LJ and DW. My work network blocks the DW one, but not the LJ onw. c.c Same exact words, different sites!

Hmm, yeah, I used to do that. (And I should backup my LJ to DW again. They had a handy import feature...)

it certainly doesn't help to have all of the attacks combined with the dwindling overall usage by people generally...

I miss the old LJ, but dammit, it's gone. DW is just not-LJ. I'm on FB, for good and for bad, but while it's an easy way to keep track of LOADS of people, the depth is just not there. Like you, I'm not involved in any fandoms at present. I guess I could, maybe, find a new one, but HP burned me out in so very many ways. And then, which fandom? Which version of a fandom? Maybe it's just better to find wonderful things and enjoy them on one's own? (Grimm!)

If you opt to bail, do keep in touch. We live in the same state, and I actually get down to your end of the universe about once a year or so.

Same. I loved hardly being able to keep up with my friends list, the site feeling so alive. I suppose it must be still like that for some circles? Or maybe most of them have moved off to Tumblr, too.

Will do! The site is working fine this morning, which has made my desires to leave vanish.

Yay you're alive! Job change? For the better, I hope?

I now work overnights in data entry. I took a paycut, but after 90 days, I get insurance.

As a side note, today is my 90th day.

I also had some depression following a car wreck, and add to that having my heart broken by the girl that raised me out of that depression because someone else told her that he had feelings for her after I did...and finding out it was one of my best friends. :I

It's sad you had to pick one, but I think insurance is more important. Keep working and the pay raises will come!

Ack! Sorry about the other situation though. :/ *snugs*

I don't much care for Facebook, and LJ is kind of like my diary at this point, so I plan on sticking around. I like being able to talk to people, and other sites are nearly as amenable to good conversations.

Fandoms are all cool and such, but I seem to have less and less time for that lately. It is still nice to see what people are up to though. I like reading about your culinary misadventures!

Do let me know what you find out... I am similarly unimpressed with LJ, and FB and Twitter are becoming too commercial for my taste. But, it doesn't help to post where people won't see it.

I checked out App.net which may become what Diaspora promised, but still it is no good if people don't show up there.

Some sort of combination, like my own blog that pushes to twitter or something? Who knows.

I haven't found anything better (especially when you add in my 10+ years of history with LJ and friends here and such). While the rough spots are annoying, I suspect I'll be here for the long haul.
