Just a brief FYI: I cleaned up my friends list, removing LJs that have been inactive for many months (if not years). If I've unfriended you in error, please leave me a comment and let me know!

Sorry, in a silly mood today. :)

Oh! I so have to tell you. Talk about silly things in games...

I've been playing Skyrim again. Sneak into this place, and brutally kill a guy, leaving him sitting in a chair. (I'm not a very nice person in Skyrim, no..) Then someone else walks right into the room and stops, staring at the body. "How'd this happen?" He sounds mildly surprised. Then sits on the body and starts eating some bread.

I was all "Ooookay! Time to depart." Almost woke Mark up laughing so hard.

I really don't know if you'd like Skyrim, but I've been playing for 300 hours now and still have an expansion I haven't touched. I sneak around and kill things with a bow. Dragons drop out of the sky on my head... it's a ton of fun. And the glitches! Search Skyrim Glitches on Youtube if you want to see some. It's hilarious.

The game allows for different difficulty settings as well. So it can be easy or super hard. Also allows you to create any kind of character you want. You want a skill? Practice it! Sure it's kind of hard to wear heavy plate while casting spells, but you can do it.

And it's gorgeous! I can't express enough how beautiful it is. The Aurora Borealus often spreads like a rainbow of fire across the sky. There are three moons. Some underground places glow with phosphorescence.

Now, it is a stand along game. No auction house, no other players, no rp.. but I've loved it.

Haaa! How else to eat bread other than sitting on a newly killed dead man?

And I've heard good things about Skyrim! It's on my short list of games I'm pondering.

Another selling point? ;) It's a company that allows mods. So in getting Skyrim you have access to hundreds of mods. New armors, appearances, skills, quests, monsters, etc.

To buy Skyrim I suggest merely Googling Steam and downloading it. Steam itself is free, but through Steam you can buy a ton of games.

Think of Steam as a launcher with a store. It's quick, easy, and they have sales every day for things. (Like $5 games!) Also have a TON of free to play games. It's like one stop shopping. Almost a little addictive.

And the mods? They have this Workshop section that is player created content. Want a mod? Hit the subscribe button and it installs. Not sure how they could have made this easier.

Oh! Some problems with Skyrim.. should be fair and list what I've found.

Controls are meant for consoles, so are damn annoying until you can remap the keyboard. The opening sequence doesn't let you change anything until it's over. wsad for moving, and mouse for weapon skills to start. I change it to moving via mouse and weapon skills on W, E, and R.

E is activating things. Never change that. The game has a glitch that doesn't let you use anything else. :P But once I got use to it, game play was really smooth.

They have six voice actors. No, really. Everyone sounds the same.

You almost have to install a mod called SKSE, because the mouse doesn't function well in menus. I went a long time without it, so you can get by, but keep in mind that your mouse pointer don't actually pick what you are pointing at. (This is another problem brought about by creating it for the PS3 and importing it to PC. FFXI had issues with that as well.) SKSE improves this dramatically. However, it's the one mod I had to manually install. Super easy though. Drop a few files in two separate folders, don't have to save over anything, make a new shortcut.. done!

Glitches. The creators know the modders will fix stuff, so they don't. Meaning, get every 'Unofficial Skyim' patch in the workshop. They are all worth it.

I wouldn't suggest buying any expansions, unless there's an awesome bundle deal, until you know you like the game. Mostly just to save money. Hearthfire has been fun. It's a tiny mod, and cheap, allowing you build your own house. Dawnsguard is about vampires, but be warned... it causes a crashing problem on a lot of pcs. I actually uninstalled it once I finished it due to that. No fix worked. :( Dragonborn is the one I haven't played yet, but it got great reviews.

That's all I can think of for now. None of these stop me from playing.

Oh! Another great thing... very, very few quests are timed. Don't want to do a quest? Want to ignore the main story line for a while and explore? Then do so. A few things rely on other quests being done, and they will wait for you to finish exploring those forty something dungeons over there. One of my favorite things is to wander the wilderness to discover new places. You can't spit without hitting a 4k year old cairn.

Woo, thanks for all the info! *bookmarks for later* If I do end up getting it, I'll post about it for sure. :D

(Sorry if you get this comment multiple times, LJ is acting up.)

I thought I lost that post about glitches. @.@ Glad I didn't have to retype it!

I also keep remembering things! There is a ton of lore in game, and there are books you can find and read. It's awesome. Skyrim is #5 in a series, and continues all the lore from the previous games. So there's a lot to read about. Some of my favorite is about the dwarves. They are actually elves that lived underground, but suddenly disappeared thousands of years ago. No one knows how or why. Their ruins are some of the most fun to explore. :)

..I'll hush now. ;)

Seconding the recommendation for SKSE. It is ESSENTIAL, ye gods the default interface is horrendous.

Just got back into playing Skyrim after not really touching it since XCOM: Enemy Unknown came out.. Probably sometime very soon I'll get the Dragonborn DLC, but for now I'm still exploring Hearthfire content for the first time. Still disappointed that all the children in the game are human. Why are there no little Orc boys and girls running around in the strongholds? I can understand there being no khajiit or argonian children in Skyrim, seeing as there are so few adults there, but you'd expect to see at least one or two elven kids..
