Guessing games, ants, Cows for the orking
Apr. 17th, 2003 08:25 amGuessing game first!
Story summary:
There's a new foreign student in Slytherin. She enjoys mad schnoogles with Draco, but is friendly toward the Gryffindor trio. She's a Parseltongue, but loves "Aunt Poppy". Her father is a Death Eater, but her mother was a healer. She wears a snake around her neck and rides a horse. What the hell is she?
Okay, class. What is she? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? (A hint! It starts with a 'M' and ends with an 'E' and has 'ary su' in the middle!)
-----------
Okay, now that I've gotten the snarkiness out of my system (yeah, right), we can move on to other topics. Damned ants have invaded my damned bathroom again. I killed a bunch of them this morning. Wish my cat would kill them, she just sits there and stares at them. Bah.
-----------
Work's going to be twice as bad as it usually is. Cow orker is off tomorrow and appears to be MIA today. Maybe he decided to start his weekend early. I'm unsure if I should cry or scream. Grr.

Date: 2003-04-17 08:45 am (UTC)Ants have been invading one of my cat food dishes if I forget to remove the food on a timely basis. The cats' reaction is either to stare at the crawling bowl uncomprehendingly, or meowing pitifully to alert me to the fact that "Mooooooom! They're eating my fooooooooooood!"
Y'know, I should browbeat you into letting me come visit you Saturday night, bearing Chinese food, and make you watch "Chamber of Secrets" with me.

Date: 2003-04-17 09:49 am (UTC)Ugh. I'm dreading the day the ants reach the cat food or (much worse) the kitchen. I might have to burn down my apartment to kill them all off at that point. :P
come visit you Saturday night
Thanks, but I'd rather hide by myself. :) Especially with co worker out today and tomorrow, I'll really need the weekend alone and in hiding. Thanks though!

Date: 2003-04-17 11:37 am (UTC)Mournfully, there are far too few of us out there. If only the blasted books weren't out of print! I'd buy them, used, if they didn't cost obscenely large amounts of money. Ever read _Tomorrow's Sphinx_? It's another by Clare Bell.

Date: 2003-04-17 12:24 pm (UTC)Yes, I read Tomorrow's Sphinx a long while ago. Have you checked out People of the Sky? It's my favorite thing she's written, outside of the Ratha series.

Date: 2003-04-17 12:31 pm (UTC)Around $10? Glee! I will -have- to go buy them! Last time I checked Amazon, though, they were from about $200-$300. n.n;
You ever read the Firebringer trilogy by Meredith Anne Pierce? Another good series, and amusingly similar to the Ratha books. Instead of cats, though, you've got unicorns, both those who live in the main tribal group and the outcasts who live wild on the plains-- and, a la Ratha, there's a young upstart who discovers fire. Definitely worth a read. And they're actually coming back into print sometime this summer. Quite fun.

Date: 2003-04-17 01:32 pm (UTC)I'm sure the prices vary on Amazon. Since I have all the books now, I rarely check for them. If Amazon fails to have okay prices, do a websearch for out of print book sellers. I bought People of the Sky for like $5 plus postage from some site.
Huh, no, I hadn't read Firebringer, but it sounds interesting. I'll look for it.
Eventually I'm going to put up some information on my site. Scans of the book covers, places to buy them, and some of the non-personal emails we've exchanged (stuff about the books). I just need the free time to pull it all together.
