FFXIV as a whole is new to me, I've only been playing two or three weeks now, so even though the giant 2.2 patch is coming tomorrow, I didn't watch the trailer until today.

OMG. I should have watched sooner!

First off: Fishing! The fishing questline story wasn't a tall tale after all! Haha!

Second: Big fishing? (I sure did laugh at the guy being in one spot day and night over multiple days fishing!) Wonder what it is, but YAY REASON TO FISH AGAIN! Boy have I missed doing it.

Third: Gardening? EEE! Let me play farmer and I'll be happy!

Fourth: The music (the whole trailer) is done SO WELL.

I'm enjoying this game so much. I really should cancel my WoW subscription, but I'm having a hard time letting go (even though I don't want to play at all). I was a little worried I'd soon run out of things to do on FFXIV (I'm halfway done with all crafts, along with leather 41 and fishing 50), but looks like they'll be keeping entertaining new content coming.

When I saw bigger fishing I boggled. The Marlin you catch for level 45 or 50? Can't remember which.. it was five times as large as my character! How big is big fishing? ;) (Never mind there's a Megladon shark to be caught off Umbra Isles. I should go get that one. Just to have one.)

I too have stopped fishing and it's sad. Love doing it, and the only reason to do it now is the fishing log. That gets kind of boring. :(

Gardening will be for your house. I was REALLY disappointed in that. Loved puttering around in FF11 growing things.

I've gotten four of five pieces for my Summer class gear. Those last levels are a pain. No quests really. You have to grind dailies and FATES.

I've been thinking about doing the fishing log, just to have reason to fish. I'd rather do it because it's useful though, like making money...

I wonder if big means size or something else? My first thought was that we could maybe fish up a new mount, haha. Maybe it means big/better catches than just fish? It'd be nice if it meant fishing up mats.

Oh gardens sound really small then. Maybe they'll expand it to give you a bigger plot as time goes on? By house you mean the inn room, not FC housing? If it's a group gardening thing, that's even worse. I like my FC, but I want my own garden!

Congrats on SMN! My archer is still 32. I swear, I'm going to have 3-4 crafting 50s before I finish archer... Luckily I like FATEs a lot, so that's not so bad to me. I'd rather FATE than quest!

I think gardens are done in those millions of gil houses in the Mist, etc. I don't think it's the inn room. Meaning, no investment of house, no gardening. :( Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks! I've been leveling because I wanted to get to the Umbra Isles to fish (Easy, easy red coral there), and that's a level 42 quest. No point not to finish up now that I'm this close.

Oh drat! Our FC has a little house (cozy and cute! Very well decorated), but we're a very small group and one member paid for most of it, so I would never complain about the size. :) I can't imagine how much they must have paid for all the spiffy decorations! (And boy does it make me miss FFXI housing.) Hopefully eventually everyone will get access to gardening.

I'm stopped by another dungeon. This weekend I'll probably do it, then I can continue on with the storyline and level more. So many dungeons...

I was so disappointed that there wasn't player housing like in 11. I understand why they changed it, but still. Tis sad! Not sure I'll play long enough to buy housing, so gardening is likely not going to happen for me.

Oh man.. dungeons! Such a pain. I have to fight Garuda and keep putting it off.

Hrm. I didn't think about buying a house myself. That would be kind of spiffy, but I don't see myself getting a million or so gil anytime soon. :P

Good luck with Garuda! Hopefully it'll go smoothly for you.

I'd like a house, but don't like the price tag. 9.9

Thanks!

Big Fishing Fishers of surpassing skill can try their hand at reeling in impressive denizens of the deep once thought to be mere legend, earning an array of achievements in the process. Do you have what it takes to stake your claim as one of Eorzea's master anglers?

I really don't care about achievements at all. :/ I'd fish for the log before I did for an achievement.

Though maybe they'll be used in some of the new recipes?

I don't have much hope for making money in FF14. Selling jewelry brings in a little, but mats almost never sell. *sigh* Maybe something will open up with the update.

..Would you do me a favor and make it download faster? ;)

My update went pretty fast, 10-15 minutes? Doesn't matter much though, since the servers won't be back up until after midnight. So bored! Sitting on WoW idle while poking through FFXIV forums.

Mostly I make money on little things, hundred or maybe a thousand profit on something. Sell enough of them and it adds up... eventually. Slowly.

Most of my profits are 5k-ish...a very scant few around 10k. This is mostly in every-5-levels crafting quest HQ items, or HQ leve items. Some of those sell pretty well. Otherwise, I end up with huge stacks of Mythril and Iron from leveling Miner, and they sell by the stack at 50 each. Totally hooked on crafting at the moment. Hit GSM 50, immediately started Armorer and am now 40 in that (took a bit over a week, though I ran out of leves). Starting to eye my next discipline - probably Blacksmith. Trying to save Weaver/Carpenter until I'm done with Miner and can work Botanist.

But diablo3 expansion came out so I have to beat that really quickly, and I promised some friends I'd join them for the Elder Scrolls Online launch and initial rush, so I guess I might not manage much in FFXIV outside of dailies and leves for the next little bit.

I'm working on all my crafts at the same time. Currently I'm:

Culinarian 18 (Not leveling more until all others done)
Carpenter 25
Weaver 25
Alchemist 26
Armorer 26
Blacksmith 26
Botanist 26
Miner 27
Goldsmith 29
Leatherworker 43
Fisher 50

...Archer 32. :P

I rarely use leves, but I should. On one hand, it'd be faster and easier. On the other hand, the items made while leveling are often profitable, even if it's just a thousand or two.

Good luck with the other games! Hope you enjoy them, but not so much you quit. :)

The DoH leves experience is absurd. I think at 35ARM, I started getting one for 1 Mythril plate. Rewards 60,000 xp. 120,000 xp on a HQ. At 35, it is like 80k xp for a level. At 40, it was around 250k xp. That's 1 leve per level and eventually 2 leves per level. You get 6 leves per day. Just playing for 30 minutes got me 35-40 ARM. In this case, the AH price for an HQ Mythril plate is 300g each. so, under 2k gil = 6 leves = 5 levels in a few minutes. Absolutely absurd.

Oh, and don't forget leves award money + xp + items. That HQ Mythril Plate leve awards around 400g ( x 2 on HQ, so 800g. 500g more than it cost to buy the item on the AH, -200g for the teleport, so a net of 300g per leve).

And I only just realized the other day that DoH skills can be crossclassed. I have absolutely no excuse not to level at least 1 DoH per month. I will populate my FC housing with crafting workbenches!

Holy cow. I know what I'm doing tonight.

I learned that the combat skills could be crossclassed a while back, which made me look for the DoH ones to do the same -- something I finally learned about on time!
