I did bad dieting this week. I broke my diet four or five times, including cookies last night (serving = 2 cookies, I had 6 -- annoyingly, they weren't even very good). I just spot-checked my weight to see how bad it would be when I check officially on Wednesday.

I'm down seven pounds in five days.

I'm not complaining at all, but I had french fries on Saturday. I thought I was doomed.

This is just all so strange.

Also: So very very tired. Stayed up until 3 AM Friday and Saturday night RPing (eeee!), never caught up on sleep from being low last week. It's been more than a week since I got more than 5-6 hours sleep per night. zzz

I think that's solid proof you weren't eating enough calories before. :)

Just don't go completely crazy.

Yeah the going crazy part lead to all the diet breaks. "Oh ho ho! I need to eat more! COOKIES!" Luckily most of them were at least semi-reasonable (deli coldcut sandwich, Chinese food that I just ate the white meat chicken and left the noodles). You're right about the calories though. Still seems strange that I have to eat more to lose more, but this seems proof.

If it helps:

Dialing in the calorie count is finding the happy medium point where your body isn't convinced you're starving (too low), but is less than the minimum number of calories you burn on a daily basis (basal metabolism). Boom. Weight loss.

Your icon is Francine Peters and this makes me happy every time I see it. <3

I agree also, it looks like you totally DID need to eat more! Which is a good thing, I pretty much love all problems where the solution is eat more. It is pretty much why I started running. "You ran twelve miles today, you need to eat 2500 calories." "Really? YAY!"

Haha. xD That sounds exactly like a friend of mine, who has become a fitness junkie in the last decade or so as a way, as she put it, "to not worry about what I'm eating". It was kind of an inverse way of dealing with the fact that she would get ultra-neurotic about calorie counting before she started being super active athletically.

It's strange how much of an issue I have with that solution. It's not even that I don't trust it, because the scale doesn't like (UNLESS IT DOES). One evening soon I shall have PIZZA.

Maybe this proves your theory correct that you were previously eating too few calories?

Seems like it. Feels really odd, but feelings and lying brains aren't to be believed. The proof is in the (sugar-free) pudding!

Sounds like too few to me. Glad you didn't go overboard :)
Also glad to see the diet is wrangling your taste buds - it's weird how delicious cookies no longer taste so amazing after a while of dieting. Remember that feeling ;)

Dieting really, really does change how you taste things. We're talking those peanut butter Oreo cookies. I thought those were the best thing ever the first time I tasted them. Last night I was boggling over how in the world something with such a high calorie count could taste like so little.

On the other hand, I'm in love with sugar-free Jello. I eat it every day, often twice a day.

THIS. I can't even freaking eat flavored yogurt anymore, it tastes too sweet. Remember that conversation we had way back about how greek yogurt is so bitter? I actually really like it now.

I KNOW RIGHT? I had said that about greek yogurt, too. Someone else had said it was dessert-like and I totally side-eyed at them. Now it's like the best dessert ever! (Okay, ice cream is often better, but it's the best non-KILL MYSELF AFTER EATING dessert.)

Bodies are so weird! Don't be surprised if you gain a little next week. Sounds like the overall trend is down and that is great!!

It really feels just totally random.

"Oh you stuck perfectly to your diet 100%? Well here have three extra pounds!"
"Oh you cheated almost every day? Weight loss for you!"

I understand about eating too few, but it still feels like my body is trolling me. :P

Yup, it is a tricky balance between starvation mode and lowering caloric intake for weight loss. It seems like you are on the right track though.

Lack of sleep is supposed to make you gain weight too, so don't overdo the RP!

Yeah, I heard the sleep thing, too. I think that's harder for me than giving up bad foods! Even when I have enough hours to sleep, I can't fall asleep and I wake up early.

Also as far as the going to sleep thing goes, I use this:

http://naturalvitality.com/natural-calm/

but I would ask your doctor first; mine is the one that put me on it. I have problems getting my brain to turn off at night and this just knocks me OUT.

Huh interesting! At the moment I'm going to pass though. In two weeks I have to stop taking all herbal/over the counter stuff (apparently even stuff like fish oil can make the anesthesia more dangerous -- who knew!).

I'll keep it in mind for after though!

OMG, I had forgotten it was that close, even though you JUST posted about it the other day!

Yeah, I know, right? Assuming the insurance gets straightened out by then...

Off-topic, but after discussing elite marks in XIV the other day - patch 2.35 blew it away. Daily marks now give 4 and 10 seals instead of 1 and 2. Weekly elite marks give 50 instead of 20. Rank B marks give no reward for kills, and respawn almost immediately. This means a bit more grindy nature - definitely doing the daily marks as they're worthwhile now - but getting Sands of Time is actually feasible for those of us not in the hardcore endgame LSs.

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Isn't that the best thing ever? AND I wanted the title from killing all the Rank B mobs, now I can just walk around and do it! :D

Can you believe they have a 5 second respawn time? And are non-aggro? So basically they'll just always be up!

I'm so happy with this change.

Kinda wonder if they're going to phase out Mythology tomestones in 2.4 the way they did Philosophy in 2.2 and just keep the level 90 gear available via Allied Seals.

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Someone on my FC said something about no new tomes in 2.4, but I didn't really pay attention since that's not something I deal with.

I'm really, really happy with all the changes in this patch though! I made more than 100 Allied Seals today, which is more than I had made pre-patch since the Hunt started. Loving the beastman crafting dailies, too!

Cool! I haven't tried any of the new stuff yet since we have a friend from out of town visiting (though he plays FFXIV so we talked about it a good deal) but I'm looking forward to it.

With the new hunt stuff I can now go ahead and finish off my level 90 DRG gear, yay!

Date: 2014-08-20 04:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
For sure! It's going to be easy now. (And getting non-gear stuff, too.)

Weight is such a weird thing. I love that feeling when you think you've up and you've actually gone down. It's like a reprieve!

Yes! Though the reverse is just painful.
