I keep meaning to post about TV shows, so here goes.

Marco Polo: On Netflix. I just finished the first season (10 eps) last night. Arg, I can't say enough good about this show! Nearly 100% of the cast was attractive to me (other than one character). The men were almost all Asian or dusky skinned, black hair, muscular in horseback riders/sword fighter-ways. Nearly all the women were just so beautiful. Lots of horses, fighting of all sorts (sword, martial arts). Exciting story lines (shocked me more than once!). Giant historical battles, plots, deaths, character growth. I loved so many of the characters! I'm dying for the second season to be released.

The 100: "Surprisingly watchable" could be damning with faint praise, but this is a CW show, so it fits. I had written this show off for a long time, even though trusted sources told me it was good and said I'd like it. For a "pretty teenager" show, it's surprisingly brutal. Set in the future after the Earth is ruined in some as-yet-unknown event, the last of humanity was living in space. Unfortunately the space station they're on was dying, so the leaders decide to send 100 kids down to Earth to see if it's survivable yet. Even in the first ep, a few of the 100 died, and seems like every ep or so they lose a couple more. Not even just minor, unknown characters! Main ones get offed, too. And as the world was destroyed (seems like a nuclear event, there are radiation issues and mutated animals and such), there are always interesting hazards they run into. Someone else compared it to Battlestar Galactica, which isn't too far off. (It's NO WHERE near as smart as BSG, but has a lot of the same feel/themes.)

Farscape: While I haven't watched this for a while, I haven't given up on it yet. I had been watching it on TV instead of my computer, which made it harder. With my new computer, I can run Netflix and my MMO at the same time, so I'll be able to go back to watching it on my second computer screen. I really do want to finish watching the series, I just lost my drive to.

There are a bunch of other things I want to watch (I'm a whole season behind on House of Cards) or rewatch (DS9, Buffy, Lost, and others). But I suck at multitasking, so generally only have an hour or so a day to concentrate on TV. TV in the background? That I can do, but that's just background noise, not something I'm watching and paying attention to.

My wife and I also liked Marco Polo quite a bit.

Good to hear! I wish the new season was coming out sooner, but it only just got renewed. I don't think we'll get it before winter.

We loved Marco Polo, too! And yeah, I'm bummed there won't be a new season for some time.

Who did you find unattractive? I agree, the cast is all interesting-looking in a variety of ways, and the scenery porn is amazing - both the tropical stuff and the high-steppe stuff. And the storyline is well done also, in that they really did avoid the "what you need is a white man" trope - Marco is more the fish out of water than the foreign savior.

The Khan himself is the only one who doesn't do anything looks-wise for me. The "Cricket Minister" I disliked for personality reasons (of course), but in looks even he worked for me.

They did do well avoiding that trope. The end of the season was such a roller coaster!

You're right about the scenery porn as well. It's such a good looking series in every way -- bonus on top of the storyline!

About the only activity I can combine with TV watching is knitting - and not the more complex patterns. After a few years of this, now it feels wrong to watch TV without having anything to occupy my hands.

That makes sense to me. I have a really hard time just sitting and doing nothing at all while watching TV. Problem is, when I start doing other stuff, then I pay less attention to the show... So something like simple knitting would probably work for me (but instead I poke about online while watching).
