Lost

I know it's kind of pointless to post about Lost, since I don't want people to correct my mistakes or confirm what I guess (no spoilers!), but I've been watching so much of it, I want to post about it again.

I'm not going to use a spoiler cut, since the show is 10 years old, but if by chance you haven't seen it and are considering watching it, just skip this post. Spoilers up to early in season four.

The end of season three took off right after I made my "I'm really not enjoying this" post, haha. For a while, things got really, really good. Like Locke's father arriving in the "magic box" implying things about the island (that it's not an island, that it's Hell).

We got another scene with my most favorite Lost character ever: Jin's father. Just seeing him makes me happy (and sad). Such a wonderfully kind man, so positive and yet so humble. He crushes me (in a good way). The way he wiped off his hand before he would touch Sun made me want to sob and shake him and hug him forever.

I noticed something odd: In most shows, I don't usually like established couples, but Jin/Sun and Bernard/Rose make me so very happy. They're my favorite main characters (and I'm so worried about one of them from each couple dying).

My dislike of Jack and Kate grows with each episode.

Charlie's death killed me. Other than scenes with Jin's father, it's the only time I nearly cried so far. (I had to pause the episode for a while so I wouldn't cry.) I was spoiled and knew it was coming, but they handled it so well and it was so sad and just arg! If I was reading the scene right, it was totally unnecessary that he died -- Desmond had the scuba stuff for both(?) of them. That made it even worse. Even if there was just one set of scuba stuff (which wouldn't make sense, since there were multiple people there), they could have shared it. *sniffles* Darned you, Charlie.

So anyway, season four. Instead of flashbacks, we're getting... what do we call them? Flashforwards? I'm really confused as to how they got off the island. I thought I read spoilers that the island was indeed purgatory, so... now I'm just confused again. Also, I'm confused as they keep mentioning "The Oceanic Six" in the flashforwards -- there are a heck of a lot more than six people left on the island, so what happens to them all?

I'm really getting worried about how the show will end. I read that people either were satisfied with the ending or hated it (depending on what they were watching the show for -- getting to know the characters or the mystery). I'm watching for the mystery, so I'm worried I'm going to be in the hated it group. At this point in the series, I'm watching for Answers. What is the island? What are the monsters? What in the world is Jacob? How does the "magic" happen?

Amusingly, I'm kind of missing TV. I haven't watched anything other than Lost in... 13? days. Something like that. I'm worried that if I stop watching it, something else will hook me and I'll never get back to finishing the series. AGAIN. I've watched part of it so many times, but never the whole thing. Early in season 3 was as far as I've gotten, so I set a new record this time, but darned it all, I want to see the whole show this time.

Never seen it... Sounds interesting though. We watch one show at a time via Netflix or Amazon prime. We're currently on Criminal Minds with an occasional side of Parks and Recreation!

It is interesting. A little slow at times, but what six season long show can't you say that about? I do recommend checking it out -- if nothing else, the first season is among the best shows ever on TV!

I dabbled in both Criminal Minds and Parks and Recreation, but sadly neither hooked me. Once I finish Lost, I'm going to go back to The 100 and likely finish Reign as well (though two "pretty CW shows" at the same time might be a bit of an overload!).

Oh god. Charlie. NOT PENNYS BOAT. That really was one of the saddest moments.

I definitely didn't feel like I got all the answers I wanted, but I didn't hate it as much as some people did. I'm more on the side of unhappy/dissatisfied, but not fiery hate. ;)

The wife is a huge fan of movies. Loved going to theatres, watching movies...and the last few years have disappointed her. We saw Avengers last weekend and she was bored through most of it (other than Spader's voice-acting).

Lately, the only media she's looked forward to has been TV. This thread actually got her excited about a number of series (some of which were getting a second season while we'd never even heard of the first).

Add in an anime series or two I can convince her to watch (Death Parade, about the Arbiters who evaluate the ultimate destination of the souls of the dead through games in a bar in the afterlife, and PsychoPass which is cyberpunk Criminal Minds), and it seems like Hollywood isn't even trying. Which leaves out all the other anime I'm watching that I'd argue beat out tons of the crap on US TV.

Thanks for the scifi link! Lots of options for things to watch post-Lost.

I haven't watched any anime in forever. No real reason, other than I can't multitask during anything subbed, which cuts my choices down by a lot.

I'm almost happy to hear how many people were disappointed by the new Avengers. My expectations are going to be so low, I'll likely end up enjoying it!

Finished Death Parade over the weekend. Liked it, ended well (i suspect a second season is coming). But holy shit watch out for emotional content of the last 2 episodes. I was watching it with headphones on and my wife just saw a few minutes of one episode, one specific scene, and without knowing any backstory she started crying. Like the opening scenes of the movie "Up" -- pure, weaponized tearjerker.

That scene. It was all the worse because no one expected it! Then sudden;y crying into my popcorn...

I might have to check it out after all!

I liked the ending. I thought it was wrapped up in a satisfactory way. I also like the flash-forwards, too, and how that all plays out and is put together, that's handled really well and the writing on that is great.

But I agree about Jack and Kate. Every time, they made me snoooooooooore.

Glad to hear! Hopefully I'll like it, too.

I suppose Jack/Kate had to be popular in some circles, but I'm with you: They're a snoozefest to me.

Charlie's death was a stone bummer, but pretty dramatic! And in theme with every time they discover a cool new DHARMA thingy, it blows up!

The season you are on is pretty great, a lot of forward progress, or LOST's version of it, it gives you one answer that creates 3 new questions.

You seem to be enjoying the show for plot and characters and relationships, not just for the mysteries, so you will do okay with it.

I'm happy to see that Charlie is back, even if it's in a very limited way. Dead Charlie is good, too!

I'm midway through season five now, and things have gotten quite good! I had to stop watching it this evening, I'm just Lost-ed out for the day, but tomorrow I shall continue! Young Ben is quite a cute little kid, and I like his whole interaction with the Others.
