Anyone have some new legs?

It's been a rough 24 hours! Being on the second floor means endless trips up and down the stairs.

Good thing: A flight of stairs no longer bothers me! Two flights don't! Three! My brain still thinks I weigh 130 more pounds than I do, and even a couple steps was hard. Now I can just run (or plod) up them without trouble.

Bad thing: About five times up and down is the line for my comfort. After that it starts hurting/getting tired. Yesterday I went up and down 12 times in a row, plus assorted other trips up and down during the day, plus more today. I think my poor legs might fall off.

After 24 hours with no Internet (EEEK) I'm finally settling in. While this apartment and complex have a hell of a lot of issues, they're quite responsive on fixing things. The complex offers "free" Internet (which you have to pay a non-optional $35 fee for...), but it wasn't working. They had a tech here in my apartment for almost an hour to make it work. While the $35 fee sucks, I had been paying $68 for Internet alone, so I'm saving. Plus it's the highest level/fastest customer access Comcast Business offers, so it should be good. (So far, so good, though I haven't tried streaming video yet. Edit: Streaming seems really good, whew!)

My apartment is full of boxes, and it's going to stay that way, which is a pain. But it IS a nicer apartment than the one I leased, so I'm going to just try to enjoy it while I'm here, until mine is ready to move into.

Ellie New Cat is settling down (I'm sure the place being full of all of our stuff helps). Unfortunately there's a (young?) cat-eating Boxer dog next door. Ellie likes sitting in the window, and the dog goes crazy trying to get at her when the owner walks it by. The owner seems responsive and is correcting the dog, so that's something.

My apartment complex is right next to a train track (same street as it, only one other complex between the tracks and us -- standing in our parking lot, you can see the trains going by). While I hate noise, I actually like the sound of trains, so that's okay. Train lines seem to be like airports -- they respect quiet hours as much as they can. After 9 PM, they seem to stop doing the train whistles and bells, so you only hear the track noise.

I really, REALLY need to get some book reviews written, before I forget everything about them. Life has just been too busy lately. Long weekend coming, so hopefully soon!

Annoying as it is, stairs = good exercise, so I guess that's the silver lining...

Ooh, which train? Caltrain or Amtrak? or ACE train, I guess (not stalking you, just curious ;)

Caltrain. Haha, no worries about staking-feelings, I'm always curious about that too. I got all distracted googling and reading about the station, heh. Looks like I could take it right into San Francisco, that rocks! Or down to Gilroy for the garlic fest. If I worked in San Francisco, this would be so handy.

And you're right, stairs are good exercise. If I had realized that I could do them so easily now, I would have rented the second floor unit instead of the ground one -- no upstairs neighbors!

Oh cool! Yeah, you could take it right into SF (let me know if you want any more info -- I do it all the time as part of my commute). It does go to Gilroy, too, but not all trains, so in some cases you have to do bus shuttles and such. Also easy way to get down to Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose downtown without worrying about parking, so long as you fit within Caltrain's decent operation hours).

If I had realized that I could do them so easily now, I would have rented the second floor unit instead of the ground one -- no upstairs neighbors!

That's the other silver lining, I guess -- now you know it's easy, so you can take that into account when you move next time. :)

*looks at the train schedules again, based on your comment* Ah ha! They're not observing quiet hours so much as they just stop running in the middle of the night. I might be hearing cars/trucks and thinking it's track noise then.

And thanks, will do! Maybe one day I'll just take a trip up to San Fran just for fun. :)

Yeah, they stop running around midnight and start up again around 5 a.ma. But a heavy truck on the tracks probably makes a similar noise.

The best apartment I ever had, or at least my favorite was near freight rail tracks. I loved hearing the trains go by when I was laying in bed at night. That was the only time I was aware of them.

I hear them every half-hour or so in the daytime, but I like it, so that's perfectly fine.

I suspect it would be nice to hear them at night, too!

Our last apartment was on the third floor, moving in and moving out was UGH! I feel ya! Doesn't matter how in shape you are, that last flight of steps SUUUUUUUCKS after a few times up.

Hm, that is an interesting way of using Comcast Business. But if it saves you money, what the heck! Hope it keeps it up for streaming and gaming.

I'm behind on entries, did they end up cutting you any slack for their major screw up?

Nope, no slack at all. But the apartment I'm in now is better than where I would be, and they said they'd pay the movers to move me to the new apartment, so... I'm too tired to fight further than that.

And yeah, I wonder if that's how Comcast Business intended their service to be used? But either way, it's very good net access, at least as fast as I had before. (Woot!)

Yeah, them moving you for free is a pretty good deal, saved you a big chunk of change.

LOL yeah I was just wondering if Comcast will ever show up and be like "HEY WAIT!" but hopefully not while you are there! :)

When I canceled my Comcast account, the webpage said they'd be calling me to find out why. I'm not going to mention how this complex offers its access, only that it offers it. :P
