TV: The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones

Last season (last mid-season? Couple months back) I gave up on The Walking Dead. The characters were just being too stupid, nothing that happened was reasonable, and I just hated the whole thing. A friend convinced me to give this season (mid-season?) a chance, so I watched the ep last week.

While I had some of my usual issues with it (I don't like how bloody/gory/violent it is), the storyline itself? Loved it. So I gave this week's ep a chance, and liked it even more.



I love storylines where a character gets broken, and it was oh so satisfying for it to happen to Rick. Alas, knowing how this show works, eventually he's going to rise up and kill the main badguy (Negan? spelling?), but I'll enjoy things for now.

And then this week! Carol came back! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the King and the whole Kingdom! Which, sadly, means they're going to be killed and destroyed soon, which I know will greatly annoy me, but I'll stick with it for now.


So if, like me, you gave up on TWD, you might give these new eps a chance.

Game of Thrones: I was thinking this morning. The show is so popular, I'm surprised they're ending it in two seasons. I know the book's plot will be over then, but the show is its own thing now. They could easily keep the world going. New sets of characters to follow, new stories in the same world... Seems highly doable.

I suppose they want to end it on a high note though. Sadly.

I'm never going back to Walking Dead LOL. I just feel like they find good stories but then drag them out so they can have a big reveal at the midseason/season break. That almost annoyed me more than the characters (almost).

I'm glad GoT is ending in two seasons and they don't plan to drag it out. Honestly, I'm impressed when a network/show runners actually KNOW when to end a show **glares at Supernatural and Lost and X-Files people**. If they can pull it off and have these last two seasons (which I think only add up to a full season total if you go by episodes) then the show will have done very well, with only a few missteps in the series storylines.

I think so as well. But I agree, that show made very, very few missteps. I really should rewatch the whole thing again soon...

I was thinking about doing a rewatch before the final season, since the seasons are only 10 episodes long it means I would need 60 days if i watched one a day, or 65 if I wait for the true final season...if you plan on doing it, let me know! We can reaction blog together! :D

Apparently the producers told the directors and writers to drag things out to save money, starting partway through the first season. DESPITE the series being immensely popular and profitable.

I understand that on one level. I mean, obviously it is easy to go from place to place in comic books because no one has to build the sets etc. and a TV show can't have them traveling constantly. But some of the plots and the people just became obnoxious, probably because they had to cut the "on the run" stuff from the story and I guess it turns out I don't really like any of the characters enough to be invested in their stories as people. :\

But I'm not surprised that it would be the execs that screwed it all up. They never seem to "get" what makes these shows popular.
