thistlechaserI emailed the California Hep-whatever (lizard) Society, asking them if they could tell what my visitor yesterday had been. I was right! California Alligator Lizard! He gave me a little more info, too:
It looks like a male with a re-generated tail.
They are fairly common in your area, but they can be
secretive. You are lucky to have them in your yard.
Cool, no? Even though he was yucky and scary, I kind of hope he comes back...
