Since I'm craving chips and I don't have any normal ones, and since I've been wanting to get another one of these reviews out, why not kill two birds with one stone? (Or if things go badly, two Thistles with one snack?)

As with many of these, there's almost no English at all on the package, so I have no idea what to call it. Other than a nutritional sticker on the back of the bag, the only English at all is "New!". Oh, wait. In tiny letters on that sticker is:

(Cheeseppuri)
Kameda

Perhaps "ppuri" means cracker or chip in Japanese, for we can tell by the front of the bag that these things are cheese-flavored. Cheeseppuri! Perhaps even triple-cheese flavored! (And new, too!)

The back of the bag has some useful information on it. The ingredients make me feel really safe on this one: Rice, potato starch, corn oil, soy sauce, sugar, salt, MSG. Okay, maybe 'potato starch' is an odd one, but potatoes are fine in general, so I'd think the starch from them would be, too. Also on the back is a URL! http://www.kamedaseika.co.jp Man, I love Japanese websites. I may not understand a single word, but they're so fun and different and usually have perky smiling women on them.

Opening the bag while photos download... They smell... okay. Like 'greasy Cheez It' was my first thought. Once I poured them out, I could see where the greasy smell came from. These things *shine*. Appearance-wise, they look like things I haven't seen in years: Back on the east coast, when you got wonton soup from Chinese places, they gave you things that looked just like this. Fried strips of... well, some kind of dough or eggroll wrappers or something, and you'd put them in the soup. Makes it a lot better. Mmm. Don't know why we don't have that out here on the west coast. But I'm getting off the track!

So other than the shine of grease on these, they look okay. Actually, they look pretty good. Light and airy and puffy and light. So let's try one before I edit the photos!

Hm. Very interesting. I *love* the texture. They are in fact very light and very crispy. Unfortunately the taste is really awful. You can't taste any cheese or salt or even the sugar in them, you can only taste the grease/oil. So in a way this is worse than a bad candy -- I want to eat these because the texture just totally rocks, but the flavor makes me go 'Blech!'. If these had a *ton* more salt and cheese flavor, and a lot less grease, they would be outstanding.

I've seen some multi-colored rice-chips in the grocery store, but I've always avoided them before. I think I need to grab a bag and see if they have the good texture of these but with an improved flavor.

I have no clue how to rate these. They taste really bad, and they leave my mouth coated with grease, but I'm still eating them. I've never had anything with this texture before, and I really love it. Oh well, make up your own scores! I trust you all to be fair about it. (And man, I've eaten about half the bag already. They taste really bad, but it's fun to chew them!)
