Hunter X Hunter: OVA 1 (A)
Feb. 18th, 2004 09:01 pmIf you're going to watch the series (and if you're even considering it, you should!) then skip this post.
I really should watch the last ep again before posting this, but I don't have time tonight. I really, really, really liked the ending a lot! There are a couple of elements I wasn't sure about (did Kuroro kill himself once the scene faded? Why did Paku die after shooting the others with the memory bullets? Was telling them that Kurapica's weakness was his friends enough to do it? I thought the weakness he was guarding was that he couldn't use the chains against anyone but the Spiders), but all in all, I loved the ending!
While a few of the lesser Spider members did nothing for me, I loved a couple of them. Pakunoda was near the top of my list: Not only was she not a pretty woman (yay normal looking people!), her love for the boss made my heart ache. Nobunaga was the other one -- I loved how he latched right on to Gon and wanted to make him into his new partner. He was so... loyal to his dead partner, yet still it was touching that he needed a new one.
Kuroro, Kuroro, Kuroro ... what an interesting fellow. He so needed to lose that fuzzy coat though. (Man, I've never been so bothered by a character's clothing before, but I HATED that coat.) I liked how his people were so loyal to him, even though they were supposed to be loyal to the group instead. He's not my favorite bad guy ever, I feel like there could have been more to him, but he was still cool.
....oooooh, wait. His prediction was that he'd meet a partner... hold on. "Should a search for a new partner begin? If so, then head to the east. You will definitely meet the one who is waiting for you." Then the subbers added to the top of the scene: "In Eastern culture, the east signifies heaven - a place of happiness". Paku is dead and loved him, was it saying that he should kill himself and meet her in the afterlife? Oh, that'd be so totally perfect! *sniff* Sad and perfect. Oh, and I loved how Paku liked the kitten and saw all the cats together in the end.
Eek, only one more OVA to watch! By chance I have two copies of it, one by Animeone and the other by Animeforever. Hm, I wonder which is the better one? Well, tomorrow I'll start one or the other! Woo!
