What else could a post be about this morning?

I am an idiot.

I am such an idiot.

I know how people are. I know how Americans are. Why did I think the average SUV-driving, 24oz-steak-at-ever-meal, my-kid-is-more-important-than-anyone-else's American would turn away from the herd, turn away from fear, and pick progress? Pick getting along with the rest of the world instead of flipping it the bird? Pick rights for everyone? Pick not forcing your own damned religious beliefs onto everyone else?

God damned idiot Bush LITERALLY called up wolves to scare the fucking American herds. (He featured wolves in a TV commercial, because everyone knows how evil wolves are! Damned idiots.) And like the damned herd animals they are, the idiots flocked behind Bush, utterly unaware that HE was the one who brought the damned wolves in to begin with.

Idiots, all of them. But none more so than myself. Why did I hope? Why did I expect people to do better? I know how people are. I know that friends betray you at the drop of a hat. I know that people are not basically good, they are basically selfish bullies. I stopped hoping for good from people a long time ago, so why the hell did I give in this time and hope for something better?

Because I am an idiot.

(I skipped my walk this morning to write this, in hopes that it would help rid me of the need to vomit. It didn't work. I hate myself for hoping for something better from people.)

Note: Yes, I know a lot of people did vote for Kerry, and yes I know that not every single Bush backer is a selfish asshole.

I forgot I had gotten up early this morning to check the news, thus I got to do my walk this morning. I'm very happy about that.

While nearly all of my flist believes and votes as I do, I know there are one or two people who think I am insane. So here is at least a partial list of why I feel Bush being reelected is so so so so so so so bad:

1) Personal freedom. "This is my body, I should be able to decide what to do with it." That's going to be out the window. I bet you money that abortion rights will be taken away within the next couple years. And while I would never want to have one, it's my damned body and it should be my right to decide what goes on with it. My body, my right, my choice. Not some man's.

2) Religions. I don't believe in a god. Some people believe in X god. Some people believe in Y god. Some people believe in many gods. Some people believe in no gods. No one person should have a right to force his beliefs onto anyone else. That includes saying "under god" in the Pledge. That includes Bush giving better treatment/more money/whatever to the religion he believes in. There should be NO NO NO NO religion in government. Believe what you like in private, but it should have NO effect on anything government-related.

3) If the president of the US is supposedly a "world leader", then why the hell is this one ignoring the rest of the world? No, of course we cannot kowtow and do everything everyone else says, but how about trying to work with them, talk with them, instead of acting like a cowboy who wants to prove how big his penis is?

4) Bush is dumber than dirt. Sure he got a college degree, but that doesn't mean much. How many sports people get a free ride through college because of their ability on the field? How many rich kids get passing grades because their daddies give so much money? Bush stumbles over easy words. He makes many stupid mistakes. He is an embarrassment to the country.

5) His attempts to change reality to fit his beliefs. No president has ever filtered so much scientific fact. Censored so much. He doesn't believe global warming exists! It's not bad enough that he's stupid, he's trying to spread his stupidity.

6) This war he's dragged us into. a) There are a lot worse country leaders around. Is he going to go after all of them, too? b) When the hell did we become the World Police? What right do we have to decide who is good and who is bad and punish accordingly?

When you add onto the list the dishonesty surrounding him, the WMD lies and such, you do not get a man who should be "leader of the free world".

These are, of course, my opinions. Anyone is free to agree or disagree with them. Unlike Mr. Bush, I do not try to force my personal or religious beliefs onto anyone else.

How about something non-political? (HP rec)

In an effort to keep my mind off RL things, I dived into HP fics. I hit isiscolo's recs site and read a few stories. Most were new to me, a couple I had read before, but then I stumbled onto it.

I remember having read Blind, Deaf, and Dumb before, but no more than that. None of the plot at all. I recalled liking it, but wow, I so totally loved it today.

There are many reasons it might not be someone's cup of tea (It's not work safe, easily R or perhaps NC-17. It's borderline chan. It's Filch/Snape.), but for all that, it's just amazing. Snape is still a student (15 years old. What's the cutoff for chan?), and so totally a teenage boy in the fic. (It's amazing that an adult woman can write a teenage boy so well!) Filch is Filch, perfectly IC. Neither character is pretty, but the story works so well. And for me, it was hot as heck! (Nice nice nice little power issues, plus the whole underage thing.)

So, if you need a nice little break from reality, dive into Blind, Deaf, and Dumb!


(I always worry about saying "I like chan", because there seem to be two forms of it. I like pairings where one character is 14-15-ish. Heck, maybe as young as 13. One of the pairing being a real child does not work for me.)

Edit: I feel the need to add a note for non-fandom people, people who haven't seen these discussions all the time: Liking chan (or anything else) in a fic does NOT mean you like it happening in RL, approve of it, or support it in RL. In real life, kids should not be having sex, and they certainly should not be having it with adults!

My flist is becoming more varied, so I just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page about things like this. Fics, RP, IC stuff =/= anything in RL. (Recall the killing kittens thing? IC. Not real.)
