A long walk off a short weekend?
Feb. 14th, 2005 08:53 amRL stuff first: I couldn't put it off any longer, so I re-started walking this morning. Happily I walked the same distance I had been doing when I stopped for winter, but sadly it took me a lot longer and hurt a whole lot more. Ow ow ow, poor ankles! But hopefully soon I'll be totally back up to speed!
The weather, while not pretty, was really nice for walking. Very overcast, but not cold or even cool! Perfectly warm, just barely cool enough to keep you comfortable while exercising. *hearts California* I feel so sorry for all of you who are still stuck in snow! :)
FFXI: My god, I think this is the busiest weekend I have ever had on the game. Busy and stressy but wonderful!
Friday: The third of three Promy runs! We kicked butts and took names! Rarr! With this success, we have become part of the 3% of the millions who play FFXI who have succeeded in all three! Not only did we beat all three Proms, but we did not have one single death any of the three times! (Poor Xal, our guide to the top/boss, did unfortunately die once.) Dem was the easiest by far. It was only getting to the boss (same as the last two) that was the hard part: We trained most of the top floor to the zoneline, which was where Xal unfortunately didn't make it this time. But whew! So exciting!
After beating Dem, we were literally dropped from the sky into the new area. (So cool! So cool!) No spoilers outside the cut, but I had a couple questions and stuff that I'll ask
( back here. Three screenshots as well! Dragons and more! )
Not going to spoil, but I'll say this about beating all the Promys: It's SO TOTALLY WORTH IT! The new areas are so beautiful that they put the old ones to shame. And the music? I wanted to die, so beautiful! And so many new monsters! And a whole new city! And my god, we got more cutscenes on Friday than I think we did in the rest of the game! So totally worth it, and I've not even seen most of the new stuff yet! :)
Saturday: After seven days of 4-5 hours of sleep and a Friday of hard FFXI from the moment I got home from work until bedtime (not to mention, no dinner), I was dead. Stressed out, exhausted, pounding headache the whole day. Yet somehow, not only did I play, I got a ton of stuff done! In no special order at all:
* Went out to Ma-whatever Mountains and tried killing a coeurl. Not only did I succeed, it was easy enough that I farmed them for a couple hours. Got only two hides, but got a stack of whiskers (worth 11K) and a stack of meat (going to ask
loneguardian to cook it for me at some later point). Ow, that must have hurt! Coeurl hits me, my torso dissolves into a bloody mist. While heading home, I saw this odd sight! Well, I guess cats are drawn to warmth, huh?
* Went elsewhere and farmed funguar (fungur? I can never spell that). Got about 30K worth of mushrooms.
* Turned in a ton more moat carp. As of this morning, up to 4973. Decided that (for me), fishing for carp is not the way to go. I could spend a couple hours and fish up two stacks of the (24 fish), but I cannot put the time into fishing up 5,000 more of them without stressing myself out. If I buy them, I'll be done with this sooner, then I can go on to other things.
* Took advantage of the new moon on Saturday and made some Seer's stuff to sell. I should have made more, as by Sunday morning it was all gone! (Amazing, it's never sold so fast before!) I had pretty good success on HQs. About 2/7 HQed on the three pieces I made. Because of this, even though I bought about 2,000 fish, I ended the weekend with more money than I started.
* Lastly, I raised my mule's fame to level 3, so he could get the moghouse expansion quest. (Even with three mule characters, I'm having serious space issues.) I had forgotten how annoying low level quests are! And in Sandy, too! *sniffle* It's a wonder new PCs don't just kill themselves over how much the Sandy NPCs hate you. "You, Adventurer! You've gone out and risked your life to do this, spent hours doing it, but know what? You're scum! You're not fit to be in my house! Don't you have any shame? And you dress poorly, too!" Maybe because I saw so much of it in one day, it just depressed the heck out of me. Darned elves, so stuck up...
Sunday: Went back and farmed more mushrooms, both to make money and to kill time till our static XP party. We're working so well together! No deaths, no one even came close to dying (*loves on D and the Escape spell*), lots of XP.
I know this is silly to dislike now, because it'll only get worse as we go on, but it takes so long to level now! We leveled... um... once or twice yesterday (twice I think), but still. It's 6,600 XP to 40. We get about 200-250 XP a kill. That's so much to next level. (I can't imagine what it'll be like when it takes multiple days to make one level...)
But woo! I hit 39, and will hit 40 next week! 40 will be a big, big change for many of us. I'll be able to finally wear my sniper's rings, which means I'll likely change the food I eat (non-players: different foods give you very different effects).
Hate: I went into the party saying to myself "My goal today is to not be hit, not even once", but that was quickly shown as impossible. During the first half hour or so, I did not use Soul Eater or Last Resort once, and only Sneak Attacked or WSed after at least one provoke, but I still got hate. At first that depressed the hell out of me ("What am I doing wrong!?" my cat heard me crying out), but then I sat back and watched the numbers. Most people hit the mob for 0-20 HP a blow, with criticals hitting for about 50. My normal swings do 50-120, with crits much higher. That'd explain why I got hit, especially early on in the fight. I adjusted things a little more: Once the mob arrived, I gave it a couple seconds before doing anything. I tried to let everyone land a hit, then I cast absorb-VIT on it, and only then did I hit. I still sometimes got hate, but that was a little better. As the party wore on, I slowly started using SE and LR again. I never got to the amount I had been using them in past weeks though. I was a lot more comfortable with how the hate went this week. (Non-players, is this all Greek to you? :) The monster decided who to hit based on how much they "hate" someone. Doing damage to it increases hate, casting spells (on it or on your party) creates hate, even things like eating food or resting creates hate.)
Lastly in this over-long post, I need to look up Soul Eater. (Eh, actually it's Souleater, but it's silly to call it by one word! Stupid S-E!) The few times I used it, even if I did not draw hate, my HP went into the yellow darned fast. My understanding of SE is that it takes a certain percent of your HP (10%, I believe) and adds it onto your normal damage. I used it only near the end of fights, so got at the very most only three swings in with it, so I really shouldn't have gotten into the yellow...
Assorted sceenshots that didn't fit elsewhere:
Go me!
