Long, long, long day (FFXI)
Dec. 3rd, 2005 09:35 pmCoP missioning and Dynamis - Sandy!
Way early this morning we started the Tenzen path of the CoP pre-6-4 missions. Luckily it wasn't anywhere near as long or as hard as we thought it would be. Perhaps the most annoying part was that it was a 50 capped area, thus I had to wear subligar. :P It took us perhaps 2? 3? hours to do, then we did the various CSs, the Tower NM fight, and the trip through the 60 capped tower to get the final CS.
FFXI is so amazingly good with stories! The CSs and the plot were so totally worth the hours of work we've put into this thus far. Unfortunately I have to cut part of this, since it is CoP-spoilery. :/
( Look back here for fangirling and linked screenshots, but only if you don't mind spoilers or if you are past the Tenzen path. )
Wish I didn't have to cut that, because those are probably the coolest screenshots of this post. :D
Then, after CoP, there was a Dynamis run in Sandy, so I went along! (Non-players: Dynamis is a shadow version of the "real" game world. The cities are filled with monsters instead of people. It's something only the highest level people (generally 70+) can do, and you do it in large groups. It's very very deathy, but there are good things dropped there, too. Special armor and such.) Sandy was the one I've wanted to see, ever since I was a level 1 WHM and heard about the whole Dynamis thing. I thought it'd be so totally cool to see Sandy, the city I loved, filled with monsters that I could help kill!
Alas, I really had built the whole thing up in my mind too much (looking forward to something for more than a year will do that, I suppose). The city didn't look cool (or any different at all, really), and the mobs were surprisingly few and far between. (Besides, I didn't get to see much. In all my dreaming about Dynamis I had always pictured me running around and looking at stuff.) The music was very cool... but after three hours of it I wanted to stuff my ears so I wouldn't have to hear it anymore.
Here we are, gathering at the first camp. See how many people there are!
Second camp, notice me standing there just watching the fight in the distance? That's how I spent most of the time, alas.
Eee! So cool! Swirly! That's what the gates out to Ronf and into the MH exit looked like. I tried running through, but you can't. Looks really cool though!
Most of the mobs were these odd orcs. Kind of cool looking.
The NM orc responsible for the most amusing part of the night: This orc had a special AoE charm move (could charm PCs in a whole area, thus control them). He got nearly the whole group, 30-ish people charmed, under his orders, following him... all except me! I wedged myself into a corner behind the chocobo stable, doing Beanie's "I'm a tree, I'm a tree!" thing. The darned NM and all the charmed PCs walked right past me, but somehow didn't see me! (If he had, all the charmed PCs would have attacked me! :D ) Eventually he lead them away from me, heehee. I wish I had gotten a screenshot of all the charmed people, but I was in something of a panic -- I had no idea where I could run if they all came after me!
The good parts of Dynamis: I got 3? 4? levels of GS skillup (it's only 10 levels below scythe now, and scythe is nearly capped!). I died twice, but Merlee gave me R3s both times so I only lost about 500 XP total (YAY). I was so happy that Merlee was our WHM because I totally trusted her. :) And the last good part was how much fun my party had (we were bored out of our minds, so we were joking, flirting, and getting naked with each other -- I almost missed the call to move camps once, because our DRG and I were removing our clothing together, piece by piece. :P ).
The bad parts: See that whole 'we were so bored' part. I spent the vast, vast majority of my time doing nothing. The other group did most of the fights and we just watched them as we waited for our PLD to try to bring us something to kill. This unfortunately lead to a lot of complaining on /p -- people were bored and really annoyed that we were doing nothing (rightly so in my opinion, though I never joined the complaining out loud). One of the DRKs in my group was one of those types who made me ashamed that he was a DRK. :( He couldn't even stun (not stun a move, we were just stunning in turn to try to keep it from doing anything).
So all in all I'm glad I got to go, but I have zero interest in going again. It took way too long, and I felt worse than useless. Mostly I just stood around and hoped I was standing in the right place. The few times our group got to fight, I only got a swing or two in before the mob died. :/ (By the way,
gbeans, the walk-through you gave me before we started rocked. It was really good knowing where we were headed and where camps were and stuff!)
Maybe one day I'll go again, when I'm really high level and have nothing else to do. I am glad I got to go this one time though, since I've wanted to do it for so long. Just wish I hadn't been useless...
