thistlechaserWhen was the last time I tried to sell a TV show? I believe I've only done it once before. Why? Because much of what is on TV is fluff and not worth recommending, but finally a show has come along which is different.
Lost.
I recommended it last week when the first ep aired, but the second ep actually blew the first out of the water. I am comfortable in saying that this is one of the best shows I have ever seen on TV.
It comes from the creators of Alias, and the pilot alone cost ten million dollars to make. That's right, ten million dollars (the new record for most money spent on a pilot). You can see every penny of the cash -- there's more quality in this show than in most movies.
What's it about? The basics seem simple enough: A plane crashes on an island. The few survivors soon discover that they're not alone. Sound cliched? Perhaps. But it's handled very well, better than most of the Summer Blockbuster Movie-type releases. (Edit: Eh, I guess that's not saying much, huh? Well how about: "I couldn't ask for it to be handled any better"?)
Why do I love it? Because you have to think. You need to pay attention to the screen and watch closely. Multitask during it? Try it and you'll be sorry. (And besides, you won't want to!). How often does a show make you think and wonder? I'm still pondering last night's ep today, turning the plot over and over in my head, trying to figure it out.
It's an amazing show with great twists and a really interesting plot. And guess what? If you missed the first two eps, they're being replayed back-to-back this Saturday night! If you watch any TV at all, give this a chance. It is totally worth it.
