HP stuff, fanfiction, etc

thistlechaserBehind the times as I always seem to be, I only just got around to reading The new Tea story (Possession) yesterday. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Her Snape is like my perfect picture of him, and the Harry/Snape in it makes me wiggle happily in my chair. I'm just sad that I'm done with it. All last night I kept saying to myself "I have to finish my work fast tomorrow so I can read more! ...oh, wait, I finished it."
It got me thinking about more HP stuff though, and how I'm really not interested at all in the upcoming movie. (In fact, every time I see an image from it, I get even less interested and more turned off.) None of the characters look at all how I picture them, and most don't even seem to act too much like the book-characters. For the same reason, I've not even watched PoA once since seeing it in the theater, even though I own the DVD. (I haven't even unwrapped it yet! I probably should, maybe there are interesting extras...)
While I am looking forward to the next book more than I am the movie, I'd trade the both of them together for the next story in the Tea series. :) That's not stretching the truth, either. While I don't talk about HP fanfic much anymore, I still very much enjoy it. The stuff I read is better written than many books (including the HP ones themselves), and the storylines are often things you wouldn't find in most published novels.
So that brings me into an odd place: Still loving the fandom while being "meh" about the canon. While JKR's Snape is of course THE canon Snape, I'm one of those who think some fandom writers write him better (make him into a whole person, deal with all the character's potential, etc). I understand that JKR's version of him is the canon one, but canon doesn't have to mean "best" version (right?).
So anyway: Rah! Rah! Yay for fanfic writers! Even to this day, I still boggle at the amount of enjoyment I get for free from you folks. You all are great and wonderful, and I don't thank you guys nearly enough.
