Wheeeeee! Boy, isn't going down this hill fun? Wheee! Downhill! So fast!
I don't look at the main page of Catlove very often. Why should I? I haven't changed anything in months. Pages within the site work. Why should I worry about the main one?
Because apparently someone, somewhere is smoking crack.
So I have hotlinking blocked, right? So Joe Blow on Crackz&Hackz message board can't use my bandwidth to post my Simpsons pictures in his 'Gay Zex is funnnny!' post. For lord knows what reason hotlink blocking killed the images on my index.html page. Yes, I permitted access to both hot-hot-hot-catlove.com and www.hot-hot-hot-catlove.com, and more importantly all the other pages on the site work fine. Just index.html. All broken images. Likely for months. What an impression that gives! GRRRR.
So I looked at it. Scratched my head. Tried to fix it. Failed. The same code (index.html's) works fine when moved to index2.html. A real refresh (ctrl-F5), not a normal one. All dead images on index.html, no matter what.
Sigh.
So I made index.html into a redirect to index2.html. Problem: Since it's a really stupid redirect, I want it fast. I set it to a one second delay before redirecting. The search engines are going to hate this. They want a longer redirect, like 10-15 seconds. I could put something up on index.html, like "Click here to enter site!", but gods, that would be stupid.
Bah, bah, bah. And why won't my damned work phone stop ringing? Gah.
Edited to add: I <3 Google. I read through their webmaster pages, and not only do they not mention anything about redirecting (probably a "whew"), they actually tell people not to use WebPosition Gold. Outright and in exact words. WebPosition Gold is a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) company -- in other words, spammers. I worked almost directly against them for a whole year. It did my heart good to see Google, the biggest SE on the block, saying not to use them. It must make the WPG people cry. Ha ha!
