In a strange reversal of how things have been lately, RL was somewhat sucky but FFXI rocked. Last night I didn't get to sleep till way after my usual time (~2.5 hours late), so I wanted to "sleep in" this morning. (Sleeping in for me means until 8 AM.) Darned idiot neighbors made so much noise they didn't just wake me up, they shocked me awake. At 5:30 AM. And once I'm awake, I just can't go back to sleep. (Believe me, I tried.) So I got about 3.5 or 4 hours sleep last night. So so so tired.
Yesterday and today are sort of mixed together, I'm doing so much skilling it's all meshing into one big jumble of skilling. :P Sweet and wonderful
merrkitty went out with me early this morning and beat up crabs in the Tree. Then a massive mob of people joined us. Really. Like 9 people. c.c Everything died just way too fast. I got a few levels of GS though, and some XP as well!
Once the skillup broke up, I used my printed-out maps to try to find a coffer to get an in-game map, but they seem not to have been up. Oh well. Oddly (very very oddly) I'm sort of comfortable getting around in the Tree. I have no idea why, as I still get lost in Ronf and such.
Then the nice folks of the Aurian-Ead-Draque-Niala-Chip static (Merrkitty standing in for Draque) offered to let me join them today! On one hand I was rather useless (I'm 67 and they were all 74-75), but on the other hand it was fun! And I got oodles of XP! And (very nicely) it was way more challenging than a usual XP party (I never watch a tank's HP all that much in random XP parties, but it was nice to be able to stun and maybe let Niala get a Cure-whatever on herself!). Other than when Last Resort, Souleater, or SA were in effect I did nearly no damage, so I really was just leeching off them, but they didn't kick me out so it all worked out! ;)
Between skilling and the A-E-D-N-C static I got up to GS 195 today. zzzzz 30 more levels to go! So so so far left to go, but I've come so far, too! I started at 120 just, what, two weeks ago?
After that I finally did the Nif-recommended Pulling the Strings solo ENM BC. I had been wanting to do that for a while, but it fell off the radar when I thought I'd still get aggro in Oldtown Moblin-Place. Oh boy, what an exciting fight! And so totally worth doing! The only bad thing was that I had to pay 60K gambling to get the key item to get in. c.c A 10K bet would get you a 50-50 chance to get the key item, so that I had to bet 6 times before winning was... annoying. (Sorry for cursing on the LS.)
After winning the bet I paid 2K to get teleported to the BC. I stood right there and got ready (that was to be a mistake). I ate a Taco (+vit? +def? tanking food), drank a yag drink, used my blink band, used my haste belt. Then I ran forward... and ran... and ran... and ran. I bet I used up half the time on the haste just reaching the guys.
When I finally saw him, I started with a Bio II (which stuck). Then we started swinging at each other!
In this first screenshot (about 30-ish seconds into the fight) everything was still going fine. I took no hits, I won a dice roll (att+ for me), and I got a drain off.
In this second screen, things started getting rough:

Weapon Bash has a 10 minute cooldown for me, so why was he able to use it twice almost in a row? As you can see, he started kicking my ass. He hit me every swing, I did little damage to him. I had under 1,000 HP (capped at 60), so 10 hits at about 100 damage each would mean a loss.
For some reason about half the dice rolls had no results at all. Odd. But things took a turn for the worse again, and the mannequin won a roll and got 400 HP back. o.O that was like a third or a fourth of his life!

I had two-houred, but my HP was too low and I was in a panic. Instead of waiting for a swing to make a drain, I cast it. I'm not sure why the first one failed to fire.. At the end I won another roll (+attack again... bah. The effect lasted for maybe two swings).
Things were looking bad. I was popping a hi-pot after each of his swings... and my HP was still falling.

But I had enough TP for a guillotine! Yay! And I won another dice roll which resulted in...
Full TP again!

I won! Yay! 2K XP, but more than that it was exciting and a great learning experience for Maat!
Gil-wise it was a tad expensive: 14 hi-pots (the text in the screenshot had just been my guess), blink band (42K, but I would need that later for other things as well), 30K for a stack of sleeping potions (only to later discover that the opo-opo necklace was level 61, thus couldn't be used in this), and of course the 60K to gamble for the key item and the cheap 2K for the warp to the BC.
I'm so totally going to do this every week! It was hard, fun, exciting, and I'd love the ring for my Maat fight (TP regen!). I wonder how hard he is, compared to Maat. I don't suppose I can hope that they're about the same amount of challenge. :P This mannequin fight was hard, and it ended darned close (I exited with 125 HP, and actually hit 100 a couple times. /panic!), but I won and I could do it again! And if the mannequin hadn't gotten 400 HP back in a dice roll the fight would have been finished much much sooner.
Edit: Hmmm. I wonder if he doesn't have access to Maat's /MNK or if I just got lucky? Also, he didn't DRK 2 hour, either. Heck, he didn't even WS once!
Other screenshots:
Agas - a floating eye thingie. While he's a quest NM and so not a "real" NM, I included him because I actually got a good screenshot of him! I'm almost never in front of a mob (whew!), so I can't usually get good screenshots. (He's the Sleepga II quest mob. We helped kill him twice while skilling. Both times for a pair of nice JP people. No clue how they intended to kill him alone, he was really hard even with a full party.)
After the Pulling the Strings BC, I needed to get the taco (3 hour food) out of me on the off chance I got a party invite. I went to that NPC in Jeuno and... hee! This won't hurt at all! I'll just be flushing your bowels with thousands of tiny lightning bolts!
And look! A WoW screenshot, too! Well hello, ladies~ Me flirting with the human women. Yes, there really is that much size difference, it's not just a funky camera angle thing. Humans in WoW are tiny! (Or I'm especially large, *strut*strut*.)
So very tired. Even though I'm only 8K to next level (thanks to all the XP from skilling, the 2K from the BC, and the XP from joining the static today), I think I'll just relax for the rest of the night. I tried to get a party for 2.5 hours, but few folks are XPing and I'm just too... sleepy. zzzzz
Edit: Oops, forgot to add something to this long long post. While skilling a RDM had an odd sword:

It was very strangely shaped, sort of like a pirate's sword. But it was the text that caught my eye. I wonder what it's supposed to say, if anything?
