In&Out (a small fast food chain here, with much-better-than-fast-food food).

Cheeseburger, fries, and a drink: $3.78 (I think, $3.something, anyway)
"Grilled cheese" (a cheeseburger without the burger, so cheese on a bun), fries, and a drink: $3.78.

They must be really, really happy when someone orders a "grilled cheese". (I keep putting it in quotes because it was really just cheese on a burger bun. Not melted or toasted or anything, just cheese between the buns.)

It was good enough to have now and then as a change, but no where near good enough for me to go 'OOOH! OOOH! I WANT!'. And what the heck is the deal with fries? I used to love fries, I used to eat them literally every day, but now they taste gross. This is my second time having them in the last month, and they just taste icky. I mean, not that I should complain about not wanting fries anymore, but... what's the deal?

I should try a baked potato and see if it tastes much different, but I suspect maybe it's more the frying process...

It's the grease. I can't hack fries any more because of that. Baked ones are still yummy, but the deep fried variety is just more than my tastebuds or my stomach can hack.

The less meat you eat, the harder it will be to digest it later. FYI. I gave up beef and pork and now can't eat either without horrible, horrible indigestion. I never entirely gave up chicken and fish so those are ok.

Lots of Asian and Indian cuisine are meatless and very tasty. I know your area abounds with great restuarants of that sort. Go try everything at least once. Call it research.

Huh, thanks for the information. And I'm looking forward to trying out new and different restuarants, yep!

Thanks!

I just thought of something.

If you have a local free paper (the one that's almost like a "real" newspaper in terms of having real news articles, and has lots of arts and entertainment, and porn ads in the back half), they'll probably have lots of capsule restaurant reviews. Even Houston, City of Carnivores, has its fair share of vegetarian restaurants. You can also try places like Citysearch (if you live close enough to a city covered by it.) Lots of relatively-big cities have foodie web sites with restaurant information.

But pretty much any Indian restaurant should have plenty of vegetarian stuff, if it isn't totally such.

Yeah. Grease can really do a number on your stomach if you're not used to it. Heavily deep-fried foods have been known to mess me up on occasion, too. Then there's the fact that while restaurants are supposed to be good about changing their frier oil, most fast food places are somewhat lax. As a result, when you're eating the fries, you're getting the flavor and more from everything that's been cooked in that frier. If that's only fries, no big deal. But just as likely that it's fish planks or hog jowls, or something. ;)
