Oh, how I miss being a college student...
Sep. 10th, 2003 04:26 pmOn weekdays I have 5-6 hours to myself, grand total for the entire day (not counting 5-6ish hours of sleep). So I can't do whatever I like after work, I have to pick and choose.
1) RP. Whee! Whee! Whee! Fun! ...but it'll take 4-5 hours, which means I'll do nothing else in all of my (little bit of) free time to myself, except maybe some random TV. No, I really can't multi-task while RPing. I can't even really multi-RP while RPing.
2) Watch TV. I have good stuff waiting for me to watch it! Mr Tivo is getting full.
3) Watch some of the multitude of stuff I've downloaded. I've seen a third of Grave of the Firefly, and 7 of 14 eps of that "Shadow of the Moon (or Sun?), Ocean of Shadow" that I like lots. Plus I have a buttload of stuff I haven't even touched yet, and I'm downloading more I want to see as we speak. Eh, as I type.
4) Laundry. Ha ha ha. Okay, that can wait another night or two. Maybe tomorrow...
5) Animal Crossing. While sometimes this feels more like a responsibility than a game, I currently *want* to play it. Really badly! It'll need a couple hours from me.
I so miss not only having more free time than I knew what to do with, I got to sleep lots in college, too! Bah. Kids these days don't know how good they have it. ;)
Well, since I RPed last night, maybe I'll do numbers 2, 3, and 5 tonight. (But bah! I want to RP!) All this could really be worked out well if I could watch TV and downloaded stuff here at work, where I need to kill time anyway. Heh. (And no, RPing from work tends not to work well. I used to do it, but it makes me crazy and insane and worried and stressed. I deal with the phone a lot, so I'd have to make the person/people wait on me all the time, and often without notice. Not nice!) Well, or I could give up sleep altogether, but... Okay, maybe not.
In other news, I'm going to try to make
shadowfey's sweet potatoes (or yams) tonight, though I just realized I have no brown sugar. I might try a little white if it seems to need sweetness. I wish I had remembered while at the store today.
And am I wrong? I thought I remember hearing that yams and sweet potatoes are the same thing? But the store was selling them as two different things, and the did look a little different... Ugly little beasts, either way. Looked sort of like dried doodoo that had been rolled in the dirt. Those sorts of shapes. Coiled and squeezed at the end.
I was feeling mighty French at lunchtime. I had part of a french roll, a little bit of cheese, and some grapes. Oui! Oui! (Did I spell that right? At least I didn't put 'Wee! Wee!'.)

Date: 2003-09-11 05:23 am (UTC)I hope you didn't wind up using white sugar; I think part of the reason that brown sugar is used is for the flavor of molasses it imparts, not just sweetness. But, who knows, maybe it's just fine. :)
(Personally, the only sweet potatoes I like are the ones served with Japanese tempura :)

Date: 2003-09-11 08:32 am (UTC)One more thing: it is probably pretty good with maple syrup. Maple syrup (or sugar) is often used to replace brown sugar. Again, it's the other flavors and not just the sweetness that makes this work.

Date: 2003-09-11 11:54 am (UTC)They're surprisingly good fried, too. Either as tempura, or just briefly immersed until their color brightens and they're still crunchy.
If you like them, though, you might also like acorn squash. Cut those babies in half, remove the pulp, and slather in a basic brown sugar/butter glaze. Stick them in the oven and reglaze occasionally, and take them out when the inside is soft and the skin is pulling away from the flesh. Good stuff.

Date: 2003-09-11 12:48 pm (UTC)I'm going to try frying last night's leftovers tonight, but not deep fat frying. Just in a frying pan with a little butter, till they get crispy. That should be good.
