The Name Meme!

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?

Exactly the same, yes.

My sister changed her last name though, and then got married a couple months later and so it changed again. I was amused.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I'd change my first name without hesitation. It's a very unusual one for here in America (but it'd fit in great in Germany!). I always have to spell it for everyone, and the sound of it is ugly to my ear (in that musical sort of way that words have). Also, I don't really identify with it at all. People at work call me my real name, people where I'm happy (online) call me Thistle. I like Thistle. It has character and it sounds nice when spoken aloud.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

My father named me (yet another reason for disliking my name). I'm sure I was named for some female relative, but if so I don't recall who.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

If I had been born a boy, I would have been named Wolfgang. I love that name. I've always loved the name David as well. Lately I've taken to liking the name Noah, even though it's a more religious one. (I know David is in the bible as well, but I don't think people first think religion when they hear the name.)

I wish names had more character though, that people could be named Thistle or Firelight or Mother's-Loving-Arms or things like that. Joe, Bob, Mike, Judy... where's the character in those names? I think that when people reach X age (16? 18? 21?) that they should get to pick some adult name for themselves. Eh... or maybe some older age, like 30. Lord knows what names teens would pick for themselves. ;) Heck, maybe you could pick a new "adult name" every five or ten years, that'd be cool.

Names I hate? Trendy names with y's in odd places and purposeful misspellings.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?

Um, I guess it is, but it also seems to be vague in the way that it would appear to be accurate to anyone who read it.

"y"s in trendy places?

... Does that mean I should be Peppi, or Hiper?

Also, I don't really identify with it at all. People at work call me my real name, people where I'm happy (online) call me Thistle. I like Thistle. It has character and it sounds nice when spoken aloud.

I think you're lucky to be able to say that! Hyper is okay, but say the word "Peppy" aloud. Just say it, right now. It kind of has an awkward tint to it, don't you think? Like it doesn't flow properly. I'd feel embarassed being called Peppy in real life... I don't like the way it sounds offline, but I do admittedly like the word a lot online.

If I had been born a boy, I would have been named Wolfgang. I love that name.

If I had been born a girl, mom would have named me Stephanie, *probably* after Stevie Nicks (that's her real name). And yes, Wolfgang is a neat name... it's easy to tease, since it's like Wolfgang Mozart, but the only elementary school kids smart enough to know that aren't stupid enough to tease people! Yay!

Peppi, Hiper

I could so see parents naming their little girls things like that! Blech!

Peppy almost feels like a word in a foreign language, the 'ph' then 'pee' does almost sound strange once I think about it. But as a whole, it's a really peppy name! ;)

Replying mostly to Thistle's response, but so you see it too...

I actually know someone named 'Peppy' in RL. :)

Dude, for real? That's really interesting... I never would have suspected "Peppy" to be a real human name. Though really, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've had classmates named "Princess" before. ... Yes, with an "s".

One thing does grab my curiousity, though. I'm asking this at the risk of Thistle never letting me live it down (since she looks for excuses to prove my actually-not-there homosexuality)... but was this "someone" a woman or a man?

... And if this Peppy was a woman, can you please lie to me and say man, just so Thistle doesn't have any fuel? ;)

*looks innocent* Now why would I do that?

"Pirate!"
"Kat!"

Heh heh heh.
