Movie Night... Day. Whichever.
Oct. 4th, 2003 09:35 pmIn an effort to catch up with things I have saved to view, I watched two movies today.
#1 - Finding Nemo - Cute. Touching ending. Not "the best movie ever!" or "the best animated movie ever!" as I was told, but still a fine movie for one viewing. I wouldn't sit through it again, though I might be willing to watch a couple scenes a second time if need be. The sea turtles entertained me more than they probably should have ("Like totally! Duuuude! Sweeet!"), but the seagulls were the best. I love seagulls anyway, and in the movie they were just so totally... seagullish ("Mine! Mine! Mine!").
Ellen DeGeneres as the voice of the sidekick fish was seriously distracting. It sounded like her, the real person, not a character. Kept knocking me out of the film's mood/reality.
#2 - Once Upon a Time in Mexico. This movie was either good or bad, depending on what you look for in movies. I think there was more sexiness in it than in any other movie in a long while, and there was a heck of a lot of violence, but the story? Either my attention span was either shorter than usual, or the story just plain sucked. Or both. But to be honest, the lack of a plot didn't overly bother me, I was just in it to look at the hot men. Ironic thing, Salma Hayek was darned sexier than either Antonio Banderas or Johnny Depp. They really could have had the three of them standing around with explosions and gunfire in the background, the three stars just posing for the whole movie, and I would have been happy.
Banderas in boots --yummy. And how the heck did Depp still look sexy with his eyes ripped out? Somehow the blood on his face enhanced his looks. Odd that. But seriously, if someone could get me a Salma Hayek for Christmas, I'd thank you!
Hm, slim pickings on things I still need to watch:
Second season of Spawn.
A season and a half of Oz (saw them all before, but that was years ago).
27 eps of Rurouni Kenshin (gah).
15 or so eps of Neon Genesis Evangelion (might not ever get watched).
11 or so eps of Azumanga Daioh (the anime with the funky opening song, also might never finish).
Apartment is a mess, but I'll have plenty of time to clean tomorrow. Damned, damned workers start hammering at 7:30 in the morning on the weekend, and they're working in the apartment right across from my bedroom. Fun.
Maybe instead of catching up on watching things, I'll catch up on reading fics. Since I can't read not-work-safe things at work (or at least I shouldn't read them there), I'm backed up on things to read or finish:
Choosing Loyalties
And Just Plain Wrong (Yes, I've *still* not read it. Bad Thistle, no biscuit.)
And there's another Hogwarts Rehab story up, too.
And... Sheesh. I should just go back a few hundred LJ posts and look for things I missed. Wouldn't it be smart of me to stick them all into a file when I saw them, so it'd be easier to find them later?

Date: 2003-10-05 09:02 am (UTC)Oh man, I loved her! Maybe it's because I never got into her show or watched her standup or anything, but I didn't find it distracting at all. I was laughing to the point of tears during the whole whale-speech scene.
I heartily recommend you watch OZ, especially if it's after the first season (which AFAIK is lamentably missing Chris Keller.)
And Just Plain Wrong
Beautifully written, but hoo boy... be prepared. *wibbles just thinking about it*

Date: 2003-10-05 10:09 am (UTC)As much as I like Keller, I'd not hesitate in taking an ep without him over an ep with him and magical aging pills or vanishing dead bodies or visits from god. :)

Date: 2003-10-05 10:39 am (UTC)Oooh, really? I ended up missing out on most of the first couple of seasons and never could catch reruns. Was limited to summaries and stuff.
People complain about the silly plotlines, but I find them oddly endearing. It's like OZ: The Soap. And I loved the Cloutier/Hoyt/Kirk plots.
I think I somehow missed the magical aging pills episode. @_@; But I do recall finding some episodes of the later seasons a bit, well, odd... Omar should not suddenly be an astrophysics genius, dammit! (Though at the time I was happy that his character found something to be happy about.)
*full of irrational love for Omar White*
But yeah, I do need to actually watch the earlier episodes and not just fixate on the Beecher/Keller fucked up lurve. *g*

Friday nights, at (I believe) 10 and 11 PM. This weekend was only the second week, so we're only four eps into the first season (though that's about half a season in Oz terms...).

Ah, see, I got into Oz for the utter realism the series originally had. The violence, the blood, the sex, the deaths... then it went all silly. You're right, it became a soap. For some folks that worked (I'm glad it did for you!), but for me it rather ruined things.
I think I somehow missed the magical aging pills episode. @_@;
Be happy you did! Gods, some scientist showed up with pills that would age people like 70 years in a day. So the idea was when someone was found guilty of a crime, just make them take the pill and then send them back out onto the streets. Ta da! No more prison overcrowding! That was the show's logic, and the scientist showed up to test the pills on the guys in Em City.
But I do recall finding some episodes of the later seasons a bit, well, odd... Omar should not suddenly be an astrophysics genius, dammit!
Agreed! I twitched at that.
Beecher/Keller was the only good thing about the later eps. In the final seasons, I was pretty much watching just to see them.
