Somehow I fell out of habit of copying my reviews into Goodreads... about a year ago. So I had more than 50 reviews to copy over. (Boy I wish you could just automatically import them from elsewhere.)

All caught up as to this point!

While I'm making a post, The Boys is really, really good TV. (TV? I guess we can't actually call it that. From Amazon Prime.) If you like superhero movies but always wanted a more realistic take on them, this show is for you:

What happens to all the people in the building when the super tosses a car through it? And really, how do people act when they have so much more power than everyone else around them? It sure as heck isn't usually like a saint.

I have one ep left to go, but I completely love this series. Bring on season two!

Edit: Warning: The Boys spoilers in comments. Read with care if you haven't watched it yet.

I've seen people talk about The Boys, so I'm curious to check it out. Darker/more realistic superhero shows seems to be on trend at the moment, huh.

I hope you enjoy it! I finished it yesterday and can't stop thinking about it. Completely loved it.

Is "The Boys" fun or very serious? I don't think I can take any more dark/gritty Nolan-esque naval gazing heroes.

While it had its funny moments, it was completely dark and violent. It wasn't the heroes who were dark though, it was more the result of everything being realistic. (If you have someone, usually a man, who has way way WAY more power than everyone around him, what kind of person would he generally be? What would he generally do to others?). So it had the cool thing of the hero thinking he was the good guy, but he really wasn't at all.

Once you're ready for more dark/serious, I HIGHLY recommend it. I finished it yesterday and can't stop thinking about it.

I'll put it on my list. About to finish off "Legion" which I still can't decide if it was pretentious mess or brilliant or a bit of both. LOL. Probably do Veronica Mars on Hulu after that. But I will give it a try at some point. :)

Hope you enjoy it, once you have time for it! And hey, the longer you wait to see it, the less you'll have to wait for season 2. :D

Finished "The Boys" last night. Five stars. Homelander. Loved the name, the attitude, and the complete sociopath. And who would have ever thought you'd start feeling sorry for Deep? Hope it doesn't take too long for them to release S2.

Only problem? Now what do I watch?

You did too? I was questioning myself so much for feeling so bad for him. ...Oh I suppose I should put this behind a cut.

Yes The Deep did a bad and totally wrong thing, but having the same thing done to him was not okay. And then everything kept going wrong for him. The lobster even! And he shaved his head.

I still don't know if it's okay to feel bad about it. He sexually assaulted someone, and it sure as hell wasn't the first time he did it. Did he deserve to have his life ruined? Probably?

And Homelander, man. Did the name worry you from the first time you heard it? Something about it made me wary, right from the start. The sex scenes with him were SO disturbing!

At least season 2 has already been greenlighted, we just have to wait...

I can't help you with what to watch. It's been 24 hours since I finished this and it's still all I can think about.

Hats off to the writers. I grew up reading both the Marvel and DC universes. How they handled the Deep was such an excellent spin on Aquaman and, to a much lesser extent, Prince Nemor. Homelander was inspired, from the name to the costume to the blond hair and blue eyes. If ever there was a readymade All-American hero, he was it...and yes, you can insert a bit of a sneer there. Not quite sure what to think about Queen Maeve, but her dialog left a lot of hints at an unfulfilled life. Starlight was also nearly perfect. Plus, B-Team heroes, for the not-exactly-win.

Agreed. The whole thing was so well written, acted, everything. Hopefully companies like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and all them can keep bringing us such better-than-TV stuff.
