Just a quick public service announcement:

If you're like me and hatehatehate when a person's personal LJ style flows over into comments and such, you can get rid of them!

?style=mine

Adding that to the end of any LJ URL will force it into your style. In my case, it makes the colors clean and plain, and it thwarts those people who insist upon overriding the text-size-choosing-option in IE. (Grr! Why would anyone DO that? Are you trying to keep people from reading your LJ? Let people pick their own font sizes! Grrr!)

One little note: I think that if there is a ? in the URL already, a second one will not be recognized/acknowledged.

&style=mine should work if there's already a querystring (eg, "?mode=reply&style=mine" gives you the message-reply box in your own style).

If there's already a ?, change it to an &.

The ? marks the start of the parameters in the query string. The & separates them. So:
http://www.url.com/my_page?style=mine&pet=cat&fish=yes
is the same as:
http://www.url.com/my_page?fish=yes&pet=cat&style=mine

And, the = sign is unsurprisingly assigning variables. Adding &foo to the end wouldn't do anything at all, since you're not giving it a value.

Helpful tips from your friendly neigbhorhood Web Developer!

Oh thanks!! I have some friends whose LJ's are otherwise unreadable by mouse eyes!

There's an itty-bitty drawback though. If person A comments on a post of mine, and B answers to A's post, I'll get the comment of A and B delivered to me. It's confusing as hell.

If I use my own style to view someone else's comments, it's not clear who commented to whom; all the comments seem to be comments on the owner of the LJ, which is not true.

Hm, interesting. I haven't played with it at all, so I hadn't experienced that yet. Maybe you should file a support request for that? Maybe it's something they can fix.

Oops. I found what the problem was : it's because both persons were responding in my journal. That way I got both of their posts, although they were responding to each other, not to me.
It's the first time that happened and I thought it was because of the ljstyle=mine was. *sheepish grin*
