Warning: Everything about this review is spoilery for book 1. Skip reading this post if you intend to read this book series.
Twin Landing: A feelgood space adventure (Odyssey Earth Series Book 2) by Rex Burke.
Quick synopsis: New Earth is being established on the planet the mission intended to land on, while the six teenagers and their teacher establish a life on the planet they are castaways on.
Brief opinion: Very different than book 1. A slow start, but somewhere after the 50% point the story picked up. Not nearly as good as book 1, but not bad.
Plot: Book 1 ended with the teens and their teacher struggling to survive on an alien planet. Book 2 starts with the crew of the main ship as they reach the intended planet and start building the first town there.
POV chapters shift wildly and so we see both groups (main crew and teens/teacher) setting up their planet for life.
On the main crew's planet, the billionaire who funded the whole ship and mission had snuck on board and now has been awakened from hypersleep and is causing all sorts of trouble.
Writing/editing: Book 1's editing was perfect. 2's had a couple mostly small issues.
What I Liked/What I Didn’t Like: This book felt so different than book 1. 1 had just Jordan (the teacher's) POV, but in this book the POV switched through so many characters, including previously minor ones. While that let the reader see more of what was going on, it felt a lot less personal. I felt no attachment to the characters this time.
The bad guy (the billionaire) wasn't very believable to me. Unfortunately there were a few things in this book that I didn't believe.
The first half of the book was really slow, but the second half had more going on.
All those things being said, I still enjoyed this book, just no where near as much as I had book 1.
Rating: 1-Hated / 2-Disliked / 3-Okay / 4-Liked / 5-Loved: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½. 3.5, rounding up to 4 on Goodreads.
