4 DNF books

I haven't done any "theme reading" for a while. That's where I read all X books off my Kindle's TBR pile. So it might be "all books that have a title that starts with B" or "all books with something that looks like a dog on the cover". I'm currently doing "all books with a picture of a dragon or the word dragon in the title". Because covers are so small on my Kindle (about an inch tall and in black & white), sometimes I think something is a dragon when it isn't, like on the Giant's Trek book.

Before these four were Burn by Patrick Ness and Handbook for Dragon Slayers by Merrie Haskell.

DNF #55: The Hidden Dragon by Melissa Marr. There was nothing wrong with this book other than I was too old for it. Worldbuilding seemed nice (set in a magic world with dragons and other magical creatures living under the sea), but the writing was too basic for me to get into it. The book is meant for younger readers though, so can't fault it for that.

DNF #56: Creatures of the In Between by Cindy Lin. There was nothing wrong with this book other than I was too old for it (again). The worldbuilding worked less well for me in this one (seemed to be set in some fantasy ancient Japan), but mostly I didn't like the main character because he was a realistic, typical preteen boy. Can't fault the book for that, since preteen is the audience.

DNF #57: Adventurers Wanted: Slathbog's Gold by M.L. Forman. Apparently I read (and DNFed) this one in 2022. Maybe I forgot to delete it off my Kindle at the time? The writing was so clunky and the story uninteresting (so many people on Goodreads called the main character a Gary Sue). This time I was sure to delete my copy of it.

DNF #58: A Giant's Trek by Nick Stella. A coming of age story, but the main character is a giant. The story never hooked me, plus the author had a very distracting lack of Oxford commas, so DNF.
