When looking for (and failing to find) the animes you folks had recommended, I downloaded a couple other ones at random. I've really liked the ones I've sampled so far:
Dear Boys, while having an odd as heck title and being about basketball, is a really fun series. A high school basketball star transfers to a new high school, and tries to get a team going there. The main character is a rather hot fellow (one of the good things about anime: Lots of good looking guys), who -chans all the other big, masculine guys in his class. He's just so cute and dorky about -chan'ing them, it makes me giggle every time.
In my favorite anime, Get Backers, the male main character -chan's men as well. I wonder if it means something in Japanese, other than just trying to make the guy doing it seem cute?
The second series (E's Otherwise) is a little like Get Backers in that some humans have special powers. In E's Otherwise, these folks are controlled (looks like owned, perhaps) by a company who uses them to capture other folks who have special powers. (And again, the main character is a cute fellow.)
Things I've downloaded but not tried yet:
Dirty Pair - Project Eden (despite its title, not adult)
Tokyo Underground
Hikaru No Go (recommended by a couple people)
Hellsing (in English, hopefully)
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Movie by that Spirited Away guy)
In related news, my harddrive is now 50% full. Have to delete some stuff.
Edited to add: I forgot to mention something. Dear Boys is full of Japanese gangsta rap. The closing credits even has a live action Japanese "gangsta rapper" doing his thing. It's fall-down funny.

Date: 2003-11-08 02:38 pm (UTC)Dirty Pair - Project Eden I love Dirty Pair, personally, and Project Eden is definitely one of the better movies.
Tokyo Underground Haven't seen this one.
Hikaru no Go Suprisingly good, for a show about Go, of all things.
Hellsing (in English, hopefully) Awww...now you'll have to hear the dialogue. Oh well.
Nausicaa Good movie, though your strange abhorrence for older styles of animation might come into play. It's also rather preachy, as Miyazaki is wont to wax from time to time.
