Man, skip a morning of reading LJ, and you all go chatty on me! Also, unhappily, S2 doesn't seem to support color-coding on your friends page? You know, where you make one person's post have this color next to them, and another person get some other color? Makes it much, much harder to skim (I want to skim communities and read individual people, the colors helped in that). Will have to read more FAQ files tonight, maybe there's a setting for that... Bah. *kicks LJ*
Work is insanely damned busy, and more just keeps getting piled onto me. Sooner or later it won't be a matter of me quitting or not, I'll just be crushed under it all and end up dead. "Splat!" as we say.
Almost a year after buying the mini-tree (3-4 feet tall, maybe?) and about eight or so months after blooming, my orange tree's three oranges are finally turning orange! At the moment they're greenish-yellow, but there's no question they're on their way towards orange! They're smaller than I thought they'd be, but I still feel like a proud mama! I just wonder if I'll be able to eat them or not. I never used spray on them or any anti-bug stuff at all. If I open one up and it's full of squirmy, icky, evil worms, I'll kill my tree with a kitchen knife. Hack! Hack! Hack! (Okay, maybe I won't really. Because 1) I didn't buy it to eat the oranges, I just like watching them grow, and 2) If I tried to do anything with a kitchen knife, I'd end up cutting off my own hand or foot or something.)
(I'm writing this update as I read my friends page, thus it's getting long even though I claim to be insanely busy.) I need to do some defriending. I have almost no time to read fics, so I should lose the various recs communities. I'm pondering offing HP_dungeons as well, as Snape's is the only one I really read now that Percy is gone/on break, and even then I only read Snape's if I've got lots of time. (Sorry to any members who are reading this.) Don't know where else to cut...
Aw, man!

Date: 2003-12-04 02:32 pm (UTC)There was a big study about regional dialect differences that was published online a few months ago. Will find it if you're interested, it's got a lot of similar questions. I was born and raised in The Bronx and have a few different answers from you, but they're mostly the same. Also remember noting at orientation at NYU that everyone in our "getting to know you" group who was from the New York area folded their pizza, but everyone else held it flat or even used a fork (horrors with anything but Chicago-style!)
You've never heard of pill bugs? They're adorable, you poke them and they become a little ball... (And... a see-saw?)

Date: 2003-12-04 02:51 pm (UTC)See-saw, yes! That's it.
Pill bugs? Eek! Yuck! (Hate bugs, blech! I'm going to try to forget you called a bug "adorable". :) )
Man, where's the fun in eating pizza flat? (Like adorable, I'm going to try not to think about the whole fork thing.)
Good idea on the communities! Then I'd have to just remember to check them again...
Hope you're feeling better!

Date: 2003-12-04 08:44 pm (UTC)Who's adorable? Where's this pizza-eating debate going on, for I really do love reading about pizza! History, toppings, how people eat it... and a chance to go Yeah!! at people complaining about other people eating it wrong. Now that I've known about Romano's here in Houston for a while, I don't automatically have pangs of sadness when reading about pizza, so bring it on!

Date: 2003-12-04 07:42 pm (UTC)I'm told a/the secret is used coffee grounds and used tea bags. The fellow who sold us the tree wouldn't sell us any fertilizer, he said those were the best thing a citrus tree could get.
and I've never EVER seen any worms in 'em. I don't think worms like citrus.
I only asked him about snails/slugs (because they eat every other plant I own), and he said they'll never go onto an orange tree -- maybe bugs do hate citrus!
We won't speak of the apple tree... nasty, disgusting worm magnet that it is!
Eeek, twitch, arg! Yes, let's not. :)
