Two questions...
Jan. 28th, 2004 11:51 amTwo totally different questions!
1) There was a Christmas fanfic fest like Gina's
merry_smutmas, but it was open to any fandom. I think it wasn't LJ-based. Anyone recall what it was called? Or have a URL for it? I've been googling without any luck.
2) Where the heck can you buy a desk? Arg! Who'd think it would be so hard to get a desk? I want a big wooden one with a "thing" on top of it (hutch? Anything with cubbyholes). I've checked office places like Staples and Office Max without finding more than a couple little ones, and I looked at Ikea which has only "desks" which look more like someone threw metal together while smoking crack.
Do they sell desks in furniture stores? Do they have desk stores that I've somehow missed? I'd rather not have to put it together, but I will if I have to (I'm looking for a step up in quality from "comes in a flat box and you glue it together").
Heeeellllppp! :)

As for desks, I believe they do sell them at furniture stores- more substantial ones, anyway, than you're likely to find elsewhere. Some of them might be a bit TOO massive, but maybe you'll find something good. You might try that "Decor" place on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara. They sell a bunch of unfinished wood furniture, but also feature an ever-increasing selection of finished pieces. I've seen some nice desks there.

I haven't checked there yet, so woo! I'll hit them this weekend. Thanks!

The desktop organizer is the version of the hutch with the cubbyholes.
Then there is Home Decorator's Collection. I've never ordered anything from this place, but I get their catalog.

And have you thought of visiting Target? I like some of their stuff and it isn't bad quality.
Office supply stores like Staples and Office Max also have desks as does Lowes. I don't know about out in CA, but I've seen home office stores that sell just desks.

Date: 2004-01-28 07:52 pm (UTC)I think the way they get the prices so low is that they skimp brutally on service :) But the furniture is good and they can select different colors of finish for you.
