Virus scans are your friend

If you happen to have my Catlove address in your address book, you might want to run a virus scan on your computer. My box is getting flooded with those damned "hello|test|hi|status|error|server
report|mail delivery system|mail transaction failed" worm emails that hit hard last week. I'm getting about 20 an hour, which is really annoying.

And since I'm posting, blessed_fire: Got time for a couple more questions? On the May con, how bad do the lines tend to be, if you pre-reg? I assume you've always done it on the first day/Friday? And do you get to pick the name on your badge then? (I don't want to end up with my RL name on it...)

Yeah, you have to pick it up, the lines are pretty long, but it is just a matter of getting there so when you get out you can wait for the line for the dealers room since you already have assurance of getting your badge etc....but you have to put all the info on the badge when you order it online.

Ack! Lines for the dealers room, too? Is it because they need to check badges, or because they only let X people in at a time?

Well they do check badges, but that's not the time consuming part...it's the letting a certain amount of people in. However the SJ place is bigger than the SC one, so I'm not so sure about the lines this time around.

There's a certain skill to knowing when to pick up your registration packet. And it's often quite counter-intuitive. For example, while it's generally quite simple to get badge and such on Thursday if you've pre-regged, one often finds that during the con proper, the lines for pre-reg are actually substantially longer than those for walk-ins.

As far as the dealer's room in concerned, lines are mostly a product of venue. If they've a suitably large area, or just don't mind a bunch of weirdos packing in like oddly-dressed sardines, then you won't normally run into lines. And they tend to be lax about checking badges...generally speaking, they'll occasionally get uppity about it, normally on Saturday, and more or less ignore the issue the rest of the time.

Oh, that'd be cool if I could get it on Thursday. That'd get it out of the way and I could be more casual about getting there on Friday.

Well, supposedly the dealers' room is in a much bigger place this year... but I don't know anything about last year's event, so I can't really judge how much better that'll be.
