My Keyboard.

I've never had a keyboard that lasted as long as this one... or maybe my standards for keyboards have lowered. The shift key is from typing, nothing else. The "a" key will be the next one like that, and you can see the ctrl key (under the shift) has a groove worn into it and will probably follow after the "a". Probably a quarter of the printed letters have worn off the keys, too.

(Yeah, it's kind of dirty, but that's sort of to be expected. It's full of cat hair now, but eventually it'll collect so much fur that it'll no longer work, then I'll switch it out for a new one.)

Hm, how come "proud" isn't a mood option?

Your keyboard is nuts O_O
The keyboard on my desktop looks like it's seen it's share of food, but it doesn't have that sort of wear o_O

Heh, yeah. And mine had a couple of food/soda stains, but I cleaned it as much as I could before taking the photo. ;)

I was trying to figure that out to put into the post, but I'm really not sure. I want to say a year, but it could have been a bit longer... (I used to type a lot, nearly non-stop from morning to night, so they get a lot of wear.)

i had my last keyboard for nearly 4 years, and it served me well, despite massive beer-spills and large amounts of cat hair, but i never wore a hole in its keys...only wore the letters off of 90% of it.

i salute you.

You ought to invest in some foam cleaner and cloths. Adds lots of time to the life-expectancy of keyboards and mice. You could always nick a shift key from a keyboard at work! :p

Cleaners nad cloths I need, yeah. I use a little blade to clean and scrape between the keys while I'm on the phone. Heh.

Now that I've been using it with the hole for a while, I sort of like it better that way. It's almost like the key has been custom crafted to fit my thumb -- it just sinks in nicely now. Strange!

Good lord, it's like BB King's guitar, with the hole worn where the heel of his strumming hand hits.

Great comparison! I'll be sorry when I have to replace it. It's an odd thing to be proud of, but I am!

Maybe you could hang it on a wall or something, to remember it?

Granted, this idea might've been motivated more by lack of sleep than anything, but..

*laughs* That'd be perfect! Hunters hang lion heads on their walls, geeks hang broken keyboards!

Holy moly! My keyboards all lasted more than 8 years and I only replace them out of boredom or it gets too dirty.

You must have typed up more than a room of monkeys on keyboards! I'm in awe. :-)

*giggles* There was a time when I'd leave a room full of monkeys behind, yeah! Not anymore, fortunately or unfortunately.

Didn't your hands every hurt?

Sometimes, but only after the 15+ hour mark. It used to take a lot to make them hurt, which I think I'm paying for now. (But I don't type much anymore, so it's not a really big problem.)
