"Cross-contamination could mean that human remains did get into or contaminate some of the pork meat," Kendall said. Serial killer kills 40 prostitutes... plus has a pig farm. Slaughters women on his farm, slaughters pigs on his farm. Sells the meat. Profit!

And in potentially related news (okay, not really), House OKs Ban on Fast Food Obesity Suits . Thank you. Seems like each day I become more and more ashamed to be related to these people. You decided to go to McDonalds. You decided to order a meal which contains more calories and fat than you should have in a whole day. You ate it all in one sitting. You got fat from it... so you're going to blame McDonalds? Idiots. "Oh, I didn't know the food was so bad for me! It's not my fault!" Then you're too stupid to live and deserve exactly what you get for eating there so much.

Ah, I guess I'm grumpy today, huh? Walking is pretty darned boring (might have to start bringing a Walkman or something). Work sucks. Why is fruit not filling? It's bulky, it should make you feel full... yet it seems to do nothing for me. If I'm hungry then eat a whole apple, I feel just as hungry after as I did before. Somehow breakfast has become just fruit, so this is something of an issue for me. I like fruit, but I'd like to have it make me feel full, too.

Seven months of not eating meat, and I still suck at eating vegetables. I'm trying to make up for it by eating fruit, since I don't mind (or sometimes like) it. I really should get back to trying more veggies though...

Seven months of not eating meat...

Wow, has it been that long already?

I'm admiring of your efforts to really start walking a lot.

I had to look it up to check the date, so yeah. Luckily I stuck posts into my memory section, so it's easy to check. Feels like a lot longer though, but that's mostly due to my faulty memory. :P

I'm admiring of your efforts to really start walking a lot.

Thanks! It's my new motto 'If I'm walking, I can't be eating!'.

Ya know...even if those people did win the suit...they'd probably just sit around with those *forgets the legal term for it* the winnings and just keep eating fast food. Reminds me...I need to start exercising again *glances outside* When will it get warm enough to run again?

*laughs* Spend their "winnings" on more fast food. Wouldn't that be ironic? (But what would be more funny would be if every fast food place got together and would never sell to anyone who tried to sue them. Can you imagine what people would go through to try to get McDonalds if they were cut off?)

When will it get warm enough to run again?

Come visit us over here in CA! It's almost too warm!

*snickers*

'Ma'am...that's reportedly your third burger this week. We're going to have to cut you off.'

'But! I've only been here once! You can't do this!'

'Sorry, ma'am, but three hamburgers is three hamburgers. I'm going to have to ask you to leave McDonald's before I have to call security.'

....Actually...I wouldn't be too sad if that happened, seeing as how I rarely hit fast food restaurants these days.

Of course, you're right. They'd probably start some underground resistance, hiring young innocent children to deal out their burgers of fat.

Dude...if it was feasible, I would go to Ca. XD But ya'll are a bunch of wusses when it comes to true heat and cold! Can't handle a little humidity ^____^

*falls over* Heehee! Blackmarket fast food! Burgers selling for $100... That'd be too amusing!

I'm like you, it wouldn't affect me much at all. At most, I stop in and get a packet of fries -- and even that's rare. (A great side effect of not eating meat: No more fast food!)

We are! I was born and spent most of my life in NY, so I have memories of what snow and humidity are like... but I can't understand why anyone would willing live in such places! Not when wonderful CA is so close at hand! ;)

Speaking of fruit, I think I just projectiled some onto the computer screen after reading your post heading and synopsis of the prostitute-killing pig farmer. You do have a way with words.

As for bringing a Walkman with you on your walks, I heartily suggest it. For me, music makes all the difference, and I put a lot of effort into making music mixes that keep me moving along briskly. (And because I'm such a crappy dancer, I like how exercising to music gives the illusion of doing something rhythm-y, even if it is just walking or running or whatever.) I think by now it must be an addiction, because yesterday, I got to the gym and discovered that I had left my Walkman at home. I couldn't imagine working out without it, so I just sat on my butt and watched the kids swim instead. Today I had a brand new mix, and because I wanted to be able to hear all the songs, I ended up staying on the elliptical trainer for a whole damn hour (dunno how many steps, but it said I burned off 715 calories. Woo!) So, yeah, get yourself a Walkman! I bet you'll find it very motivating.

And congratulations on your 7 months with no meat! Here's hoping we both learn to like a few more vegetables soon. Blecch.

*laughs* Sorry about the monitor! :)

I had been pondering a book on CD to listen to while I walk, but I think you're right -- music would be better! I just have to make sure my CD player walkman thingie will play burned CDs. Woo!

Here's hoping we both learn to like a few more vegetables soon. Blecch.

My feelings exactly: Blech! :p I'm such a bad vegetarian!

There are limits.

The restaurants have kept up sizing the food and encouraging us to eat more and more and more. Experiments done show that humans tend to eat based on the portion given to them, even if the food is bad.

Should there be NO responsibility to them as purveyors of a "components" (which ones?) of a healthy meal plan to at least attempt to keep their menu items more nutritionally balanced.

For example, a Big Mac might have more saturated fat than an entire day's RDA...

Anyhow, I'm mixed on this one, that said, I think the courts can sort this out correctly, a flat out ban may be too broad and may shield truly wrongful activities by the restaurants while the courts might cost more...

My opinion? Right, they should have no responsibility. If I offered you a handful of butter, that doesn't mean you have to take all of it or even part of it. They have a right to sell whatever they want (so long as it's legal), if people choose to go there and and to eat it all, then that's their decision.

If people want to eat healthy, they won't go to McDonalds. If they don't care about what they eat, they'll go someplace like that... then get fat. McDonalds is only offering an option, they're not forcing anyone to take it. I don't even believe they're doing the right thing by taking the supersizes off their menu -- if people didn't want it (wanted to stay healthy), they wouldn't order it, then the company would remove it because it wasn't profitable. By giving McDonalds their money, people are saying "I want to be fat". How can it be right to sue the company when it's the customer's decision?

High level I agree there is a LOT of personal responsibility, but when bad for you McDonald's is CHEAPER than healthy for you vegetables and whole grains, what are poor people going to eat. Also they sponsor "EDUCATION" in schools and help get children hooked early.

I'm ok with them having freedom to serve BAD for people food BUT there have to be consequences, e.g. they shouldn't be able to claim their food is part of balanced diet. They shouldn't be able to market it to children.

That and the federal govt should stop subsidizing these businesses.

Agreed on everything in the second two paragraphs: They shouldn't call it healthy or part of a balanced diet, they shouldn't market to kids, and no subsidizing.

I guess it's really only the first sentence that I disagree with -- sure it's not only cheaper (and easier!) than good food... but so what? My mother always told me "the lazy man's way is the hardest", and slowly I'm learning how true that is. :)

It's cheap, easy, and fast (and sometimes tastes good), but parents should know enough to say no for their kids and adults should say no for themselves... no matter how hard McDonalds advertises themselves.

If they were serving it in prison or schools or something like that, I'd have a lot more issues with it. However, everyone who eats it makes the choice to do so -- you make the decision, you take the consequences. (Hm... but kids later suing their parents for frequently feeding them fast food during childhood? That could be interesting!)

Just my opinion. :)
