Help me, wise anime people!

This has been driving me crazy for days. I'm sort of remembering a scene, but I can't remember the series it's from... and I'm starting to suspect maybe I just dreamed it and it isn't real.

The main character was a boy (dark haired). Not a teen, probably younger than that. The series centered around something physical (sports or fighting).

What I remember was there was a competition, and an adult character (not a main character) got hurt because he didn't warm up ... OOOOH. I wonder if it was Prince of Tennis and the father of that annoying rich family. Golden Retriever, I think his nickname was? But I'm picturing the boy character as being Gon-like, not really Ryoma-like... Someone perky and smiling a lot. Did Hunter X Hunter have a scene where some adult got hurt/lost the contest because he didn't warm up beforehand?

...heck, maybe my brain took PoT and mixed it with my walking stuff and gave me funky dream.

That'd be Prince of Tennis, episode 10. ^^; Sasabe's annoying just as arrogant father with the gold tooth. XD The perky, smiling Gon-like character you remember could be Kachiro (one of the freshmen trio), whose father coached tennis at the sports club they were at at the time.

(I have an episode guide for the PoT anime, so it was rather easy to look up what episode it was. ^^)

Ahhh, I hadn't considered the freshman could be the character I was thinking of! Man, I haven't seen those early eps in ages, I wonder why they're on my mind now?
