TMI stuff, Fruits Basket

Edit: I'm 82.3% addicted to LJ, per that quiz that's going around. (The graphic is ugly, I'm not posting it here.) I hate quizzes which aren't reasonable though: If you love the stupid LJ mascot (the goat), you're more of a LJ addict. Buh?

I don't like the trend my body seems to be moving in. Heart thing on Friday night, then on Saturday a headache so bad I couldn't stop throwing up, now I have cramps so bad I want to cry. If I wasn't here alone, I'd go home. I've taken three Motrin (you're only supposed to take one, then a second if that doesn't work), and I'm still hurting so bad I want to curl up and die.

I don't remember ever having cramps this bad. It feels like my whole lower belly is ripping itself apart and twisting around as it does that.

Gah. Hurts.



I watched ten eps of Fruits Basket yesterday, and boy am I liking it. I love the message in it, how it's working with the unfairness of life making assumptions of you based on things totally out of your control (in this case, things you're born into).

It's really odd, but while part of me cries out "why is Kyo left out just because Cat was left out so long ago? He has no control over that, it's not fair!", I also feel like more people should hate Yuki because Rat did bad things so long ago (and not even just to Cat, apparently! He took advantage of Cow, too!).

Speaking of which, Cow boy (whose name I can't recall) amused me quite a bit. He looked so good as a human, I was sure he would turn into a white horse... then *poof* a cow was standing there! *snicker*

I downloaded the rest of the eps, and it just finished this morning, so I checked out the Japanese voices before going to work. This amazes me but: I hate the Japanese voices, the English ones are so so so much better! (I've never ever said that before, I always love the subbed versions better.) In English, all the voices match the personalities better. Kyo sounds angry and pissy and much like a cat. Yuki is laid back and mega-sexy sounding. Shigure's voice is wonderful, he's somehow got that innocent-looking-but-pervert-inside thing down perfect! (When he said 'high school girls! high school girls! all for me!' I just died, the voice was perfect!) But when I listened to the subbed version, all the voices sounded so much alike... bland. Except rabbit-boy, whose Japanese VA I wanted to strangle after listening to for just seconds. In English he's hyper/bouncy sounding, but in Japanese the voice is like a few million needles of fire stabbing you in the ears.

Oh well! Beggars can't be choosers! I'll watch the rest of the series subbed, then when the other 12 become available as dubbed, I'll get those and burn that version.

Cow's name is Hatsuharu.

We really like him, because he's got multiple personalities, too, and no one really seems to mind. *hee*

Yeah, that's him! And I thought he was cool for that reason, too. :) The family seems rather accepting in general of things outside the norm (which makes sense).

That's interesting you like the dub voices of Furuba better, I'll have to listen to them... I do think sometimes Japanese voice actors tend to underplay emotion, while Americans usuall exaggerate. I just got the first DVD in the mail so I was meaning to watch it soon, though I've seen the whole thing fansubbed I love it and its been a while since I watched it. I usually flip over to the dubs out of curiousity for like 5 min, but I'll be sure to give this one a good listen.

These dubbing voices are exaggerated in their emotions, yeah... but I think in this series that works. Let me know what you think once you check it out on your DVD!

Yes, cow boy = Haru. I love Haru.

I've never seen the dubbed version, so I can't compare, but Yuki's seiyuu (Hisakawa Aya) is the worst choice for that character. That nasally voice just does not work, and she doesn't voice boys well at all. x.x It probably doesn't help that Yuki grates on my nerves, particularly as the series progresses. >.>

Yep! Lots and lots of pills. (Okay, not by the handful, but for me a couple still counts as "a lot".)

If I still have a good amount of bandwidth left at the end of the month, I'll probably stick a dubbed ep up on Catlove since a couple people have said they were curious about how the voices sound.
