Tipping the balance

Years ago, back when I first got my Tivo, it went through a period of time thinking that I spoke Vietnamese. I didn't mind too much as it was a pretty language to listen to, so I'd let the recorded programs play in the background as I did other stuff.

Years went by, and eventually Tivo realized that I spoke English. Well, I must have thumbs-up'ed one too many anime shows, because now it thinks I speak Japanese. It's recording things like "Practical Business English" and "China Showbiz" (a show about China in Japanese!) for me.

I wonder how long it'll take for it to correct itself this time...

...none of that post made any sense to me. o.O Likely because I have no clue what 'Tivo' is, and from this post it almost sounds like some sort of artificial intelligence device. =D

Oops, sorry. It's sort of like an intelligent VCR, yeah. You get a remote with (among other buttons) a thumbs up and a thumbs down, then as you watch shows you enter how much you like them (from three up to three down) and the Tivo learns what you like. Based on that, it will record shows it thinks you'll like. It's a pretty cool system, as it finds things for me that I've never even heard of before.

On top of that, it lets you pause and fast forward live TV (very handy for bathroom runs and phone calls!) and will act like a norman VCR, too.

Eh, NORMAL VCR, not a norman one. I don't know what a norman VCR would be like. :p
