I've made the (very very) belated discovery that there are tons of good blogs out there in places other than LJ. My first reaction was "Why the heck aren't you on LJ?". Yes LJ often sucks ass, but the friending system makes it so easy to follow various journals! The ability to read all the blogs you follow on one page very seriously comes close to outweighing the site's general suckiness.

That leads me to a question: If you follow a number of non-LJ blogs, how the heck do you do it? Do you just bookmark them all? (I'd rather not do that, it seems so clunky!) I know there's the RSS/feed system, but the owner of the blog needs to set something up for that on their end, and I'm not about to go ask a few dozen people to do that.

For now I stuck the links onto a private page (so I can access them all from that one page), but that's really just like bookmarking them... I could redesign my journal and stick the links there, but right now I have 15 new ones (and I'd probably have three times that number if work wasn't so busy that I couldn't follow links and find new ones), so that'll get clunky fast.

Anyone have a better system?

And for anyone not interested in that stuff, here's a link for you!

I think that Norwegian dentists must be behind this game. It's sort of like Memory...except you won't want to remember the pictures on the other side of the cards.

(Look for 'Tandskadememory' in the middle of the page, then click "Starta spelet" to start playing.)

(Oh, maybe it's Swedish and not Norwegian. .se?)

I think most of the major blog sites and better blog "kit" programs have RSS built in now. Look for an "XML" symbol on the blog...

The only thing I don't like about RSS is that you can't see hidden entries (if they even have friends-only entries). But, if there are other people who have external blogs, grab their XML and syndicate it here :)

Yep, that's handy for the major sites, but so many people are hosting them on their own domains! I understand that control of the site is nice, but it sure does make it a pain to follow their blogs.

Thanks!

Aaaaaah! You're so evil for posting that Tandskadememory link! It's hideously compelling and I can't wait to torture others share it with my friends!

As for other blogs, I just bookmark them. It's unwieldy, but I haven't found a better way to manage them.

Isn't it horrible? I haven't turned over more than three squares in it (and twice didn't get further than one square) because it just squicks me so bad!

But of course I had to share it. *innocent smile*

[shivers] The teeth...the teeth. I am traumatized...I knew I shouldn't have done the whole game. Even if the ingrown teeth weren't as scary so much as dorky to look at.

My god, I wonder what *my* teeth must look like to a dentist these days. 0_o

I bookmark. :-) I use Crazy Browser, which lets me start up all pages in a subdirectory in my Favorites. So I have three folders filled with booksmarks to blogs and LJ's I don't friend but do read and I can open them all up with a single click. The only downside to the whole thing is that I have serious trouble reading a blog or an LJ in a different style than my own. (Sometimes I spend 10 minutes searching for the 'comment' link :-D)

*googles for "Crazy Browser"* Oh, that looks interesting! Thanks! (And yeah, I have the same trouble with different layouts!)

;-) No problem. Have you had a chance to try out Crazy Browser? I know there are several browsers out there that function the same way Crazy Browsers does (with tabs), but I haven't tried those out.

Hmmm, you know, I think I got distracted before downloading it! Or I downloaded it and forgot to install it... How odd! Well, when I get over my current FFXI obsession, I'll have to see why I'm not using it yet.

Thanks for the reminder!

*g* I always download and then forget to install. I find .exe files here and there on my computer that are - by the looks of it - installation files, but I can't remember for which program and what they are supposed to do.
