I downloaded Flame Of Recca when I did my last "download random series looking for something interesting to watch", but I didn't get around to checking it out until today.

Did anyone like it? Watch it through to the end? Is it worth it? I watched about 10 minutes of the first ep, and I'm seriously "eh" about it. I know that's not a fair chance for the series, but... The animation is really blah and looks old, and so along with a story that isn't grabbing me, that's a pretty big hit against it.

There is one good/odd thing about Flame Of Recca: Years ago, before I was into anime and back when Napster was in its best days, I downloaded and watched at least the first ep. I knew I had downloaded and watched ...um, what's it called. Ranma? The one where the boy turns into a girl when someone throws water onto him. I remember watching that one, but I totally forgot I saw Flame Of Recca as well.

Bit Torrent is nice, but nothing will ever be as great as Napster was. Plus I was working at a company where they didn't care what you did or what you downloaded, so I had the company's fat T3 line to play with. Of course, that was back when Internet companies didn't need to actually make money, either... Gods, I miss those days. I had one of the best jobs of my life during that time, and at a company I loved. Now I have the opposite. Bah. :p

We miss you, Napster! Healthy Silicon Valley! Internet company haydays!

Recca is better on manga than anime ^^ anime-wise I'd go for YuuYuu Hakusho, its on the same format of "battle for whose the strongest" line :D

Although if you want to meet Mikagami :D *cough*bishie*cough*... *is killed*

a bit dragging ^^;

I watched all 42 or however many episodes mainly just because my favorite VA was in it (and he came out near the end...and ho boy was I disappointed =_=), and I'd rate the entire thing about 6/10.

The hero and the heroine grated on my nerves.

Hmm. I dunno if you'd like Yu Yu Hakusho, actually. I liked it, but it's one of those "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!" series. Kinda like DBZ.

Ranmna 1/2 rocks, though. That's hilarious as all heck.

People keep telling me that about Yu Yu Hakusho, so I guess maybe I'll skip that as well.

Thanks!

Flame of Recca is one of those series that I picked up back in the day of VHS fansubs and when I only had about two or three series going on at any single time... and I still never managed to get through the entire thing. It's not bad... but it's not great, either. I liked the characters well enough (Well, Mikagami and Recca, I liked. >_> Yanagi annoyed the crap out of me. Oh, and Fuuko was cool. But it was also completely reminding me of Yuu Yuu Hakusho and that series was just done better.)

I keep meaning to go back someday and finish it, but... meh. A lot of it was that it started out with a storyline at least and then it just descending into endless tournament fighting and bleah. (This is my problem with YYH, too. I don't mind fighting, but the tournaments used to suck the enjoyment out of everything for me. Yet now I want Prince of Tennis and love it. Go figure. ^_~)

Ah, cool, thanks for the comment! Looks like I'll be just deleting this puppy and moving onto something better.

Thanks for asking this; I was wondering the same thing. I just watched episodes 1-3 of it the other week at the MIT anime club, and I thought I would adore it, because you've got ninjas and those seals (did anyone else also swoon at seeing that complicated set of seals that sent Recca into the present??) set in today's world, which is one of my very favorite concepts, and the plot could be just my thing. But somehow the anime didn't excite me as much as I thought it would, and by the time I got home, I realized that for something I thought I might adore, I actually felt moderately apathetic about Flame of Recca. I'm glad to see all of the answers, and let us know whatever you decide!

It's already deleted and gone (I didn't watch any further eps). I'm trying not to bother with things I feel "eh" about, since there's so much out there that I actually like.

Glad it helped you, too!
