One weekend of not reading LJ means ?skip=350. Woo! At least it'll keep me busy today.
Five hours sleep last night. Zzzz. On the other hand, instead of turning off the lights at the usual time (midnight), since I wasn't tired (and thus wouldn't sleep), I stayed up reading until 1 and fell asleep soon after. That's much much much better than tossing and turning an hour before going to sleep.

Yesterday was probably the least satisfying/most frustrating day I've ever had with the game. A bit of explanation first:
As with your job (white mage, warrior, etc), crafts (fishing, cooking, leather-working, etc) have levels. The way to level things up is not only to keep doing it often, but to do things that are of a higher level than your current skill. So, as I progress in fishing, I have to stop catching one type and start catching new types. This weekend I reached the limit on one kind (salmon), so started going after a new one (giant catfish). Since I had no plans for the weekend, I intended to put much time towards fishing and hopefully reach the next testing level (since I need to go to that city to take my cooking test, it's handy to be able to do both at once). With a whole weekend of fishing, I should have been able to do it.
"Ha ha ha!" the catfish said.
I woke up Sunday morning at 8, took a shower, then sat down and started fishing. Other than short breaks to cook and clean, I fished until midnight. About 16 hours total. And how many levels did I gain? Two. ARG! Insanity! The whole day wasted! Two levels! (Tests happen every ten levels.)
Since I have to go to Windy for the cooking test (I'm overdue, I'm at 19.9), I'm going to check out if the 30-level fishing is better there. (I'm at fishing 22 right now... or 23? I forget.)
I've semi-figured out why the fishing was so bad: I'm going after only one type. If you try to level up on tricolor carp, you would also catch moat carp and crayfish and perhaps a gold carp at the same time... but with the giant catfish it was just catfish, rusty item, or nothing. I caught a whole lot of nothing. During the early part of the day, when the moon wasn't quite as good, this was semi-understandable (but still uber frustrating). However, in the evening, when the moon was at 0%, the day was a "good fishing day", and it was the right time of day (night), I was still catching next to nothing! Insanity! (I was using the right lure for them, so it wasn't related to that.)
If it took me a whole day, from waking up to going to bed, to gain two levels, how the heck do people get to level 50 fishing? 60? 100? Maybe it's just that catfish are sucky fish to level up on?
Oh well. At least cooking levels nearly faster than you can keep track of it. Last night I was getting .1 to .2 of skill increase each and every time I cooked something! Amazing. And happily, now I can make my own fishing bait! Yay!
I did no leveling of white mage at all this weekend. (On Saturday a small group of us did a run to take care of an NPC-related mission, and after that I made a couple small kills, but I'm at the point where it's no use fighting things on my own: Even on the smallest things, the fights are too hard and the XP gain is the lowest possible in the game. Way too much risk for way too little gain.) Sometimes I joke that I'll be the lowest level WHM to become a master cook/fisher.
