Can any Japanese speakers on my flist translate what Raii was trying to say to me (before and after my translated line)?

He's a very high level leathercrafter (one of the highest levels I've ever met), so I'm really curious.

Summerfest is going on right now, which means besides games and lots of crowds (and lag), there are fireworks! Shot one and Shot two. (These are the full-sized ones.) I really like the second one -- I may just make it into my new wallpaper. (Maybe I should have turned the name display off... hm.)

Group shot. After doing a mission, my original LS got together for a group picture. (We were being silly with the /actions.) Back row, left to right: Jennah, Verity, Martin, Elhaym, Russet. Front row, left to right: Aellan, Button, me. I look very sullen.

---

The weekend was really blah. Feels totally wasted. I slept some, but ate little. (Food is becoming my biggest issue in life lately. Food is so annoying. There's little that I both can eat and want to eat, and I've eaten those things so frequently that I don't want to eat them anymore.)

Watched FMA #40 and Naruto #91 (I think I have the ep numbers right -- the current subbed ep for each series). Enjoyed them both, but between the two eps there was just too much death. FMA's was of the shocking type, and Naruto's was of the heartbreaking type. I know I say this with every ep, but what a good series Naruto is! I'm very happy the manga is so far ahead of the anime -- the end of the series won't be coming anytime soon! The characters are just so... so... human. Flawed and hurting and struggling to live. Love the series, just totally love it.

Co worker was (again again again) late today. I don't want to be here. Can't believe people get four months PAID time off for having a baby. That's just insanity. Everyone should get that kind of time off or no one should.

Stupid television: After three commercials for low carb food products, the next commercial said something like "the world isn't changing itself for people on low carb diets...". What BS. 'Oh poor Atkin people! Oh poor them! There's nothing for them to eat!' Idiots. There's a store (a whole damned store) that opened up near me which sells nothing but low carb crap. I hate this fad, hate it hate it hate it. I want it to be over... or at least for it to get the hell out of my face.

Food is so depressing and annoying. I think I'll go eat dirt.

Edit: In case you need to read more FFXI babbling, my FFXI "IC" journal has been updated. It's not very IC this time, though.

The first part is Misu - possibly Miso, but I'm pretty sure it's Misu - desu. It's written in katakana so it's either a foreign word (not Japanese) or might be a name. I'll have to check that up.

Second word is Hai - yes. So, he probably is seeing that you don't speak Japanese.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks! :)

raii : misu desu (it's a miss)

since it's katagana I guess it's an engrish slang which means 'miss' like in 'miss' opposite of 'hit' (lose/win or failed/good guess situation)

It's a wild guess since I don't know if it's a courant slang but the crying smiley seems to go in that direction.

raii : Hai (yes)

Which means he understood you don't speak japanese

Oh, that makes sense! I was crafting and probably failed at an attempt to make something. Thank you!

>I hate this fad, hate it hate it hate it. I want it to be over... or at least for it to get the hell out of my face.<

I am so with you there. You can't even avoid it. It's literally everywhere in the stores. It's insane.

Everywhere in the stores, on every menu in restaurants, it's just insane. Everyone wants an effortless way to lose weight! Bah.

*gag* I'm soooo sick of it too. Oh no, a hamburger with no bun...doesn't mean it's healthy!
And there is that stupid no-carb store at Westgate >>

If he said or did anything to you before hand, it'd make more sense, but that is katakana for 'Mis' (misudesu) where the 'desu' is kinna more an accent than any literal translation. More formal, like when speaking to a stranger, as he was doing. :3

Anyway, the slang the other comments didn't get is esily explained! 'Mis' is like 'mistell', 'mischan', or just flat out 'mis', as some people will say, rather than spelling it all out. In other words, it was an apology for doing something to or around you that he hadn't intended on. Why I said it'd make more sense if he was doing something before hand.

The 'hai', as stated, is simply an acknowledgement. ^^

Oddness! He didn't do anything that I saw... (Though I had say and emotes turned off.) We were both just crafting inside the guild.

Huh! Well, interesting either way! Thanks!

I bet you're right that one of the two of you had just failed a synthesis and he was commiserating. :)

A third of our already limited cafe menu here at work changed to low-carb options. :/ Admittedly, some of the low-carb options used to be regular options on the menu, but some of the changes they made weren't for the better. Like getting rid of nice side of rice that came with the chicken kabos I used to order in favor of two big scoops of humus. Without anything to eat the humus _on_. So annoying...

That is pretty dumb. Hommus is a good food item but it IS just paste.

Actually it's 'Hoi' (ほい) not 'Hai' (はい).
If I'm wrong, I swear I'll give you $1000, because I know I'm not. See, I even wrote out the proper way to spell both of them. While they are very, very close...'hoi' has 2 lines on the first character, where 'hai' has 1.
The only way it could be 'hai' is if he made a typo, but if you want to know what he typed there it's definately 'Hoi' (ほい) and not 'Hai' (はい).

Does 'hoi' mean anything?

Thanks for the info! :)

Uh...I dunno...That's something I'm not sure of, the spelling I'm positive of though.

:) Any time~

While I could be completely off the mark here, but 'hoi' is used as an acknowledgement. Pretty much the same meaning as the people who were saying the characters were 'hai'. He was saying he understood that you don't speak Japanese.

If I see one more commercial for low-carb milk, I do believe I'll...complain some more.

As for FMA 40... *Insert emotional response to the thing that happened here!!!* Can't have spoilers, after all.

Low carb milk? Oh, yeah, I guess I have seen that one. "The only milk approved by Atkins!" Bah! Bah, I say!

The FMA 40 thing shocked me and made me sad, even though I hadn't cared too much about the thing the thing happened to before it had happened. You know, the thing.

Also, of course, every restaurant in creation coming up with an 'Atkins Menu'. Feh.

See, the thing grew on me during the time it was there. Aside from the humanizing elements of backstory and its relationship with person, it was a thing-thing with things (rowrl) and a cool character design. I guess I'm just a thingophile.

Agreed, I did like the thing's relationship with the person (assuming we're talking about the person who is no longer with us -- mostly by own choice; not the person who counts as being with us even though it may or may not really be). And things, yes: one can never go wrong with things.

You know, fun as this is, I think we've near exhausted the limited discussion of the topic available without using proper nouns or gender-specific pronouns. :)

Next to the sandwich shop I was having lunch at today is a camera shop. The camera shop had a large sign in the window advertising a "low-carb" sale. I was torn between laughter and disgust by it.. ^^; It reminds me of when eating grains / bran was all the rage. As someone who has to watch her diet for medical reasons, I say screw the stupid fads, talk to your Doctor, and figure out what actually healthy for you >.<;

Thanks for the laugh!
