Took a long time to fall asleep last night. Finally I did. Hit a deep sleep somewhere around 2-3 AM.

4 AM: Phone rings.
Thistle: *SNAPS AWAKE, grabs phone, worries there's a fire or someone is dead* Hello?
Phone: *breathing, then a voice (young, faked/masked voice, trying to be scary)* 7 days...
Thistle: Uh... huh?
Phone: *click*

Sigh. If some idiot is going to call me at 4 AM every morning for the next week and give me some kind of a countdown, I am going to be very, very annoyed. It took me hours to fall back to sleep. Grand total of sleep last night: Three to four hours.

Sigh. Idiot kids.

Um, if some idiot kid calls you tonight, call the police and the phone company, don't just growl at him.

Sounds like someone watched The Ring (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298130/) recently. Stupid kids.

Well, if you haven't seen the movie, what happens is that a series of people watch this cursed videotape, then they get a phone call out of the blue (breathy voice saying "seven days"). Seven days later they mysteriously die. Classic horror movie stuff.

At least there's no countdown, though. :)

Ah! I thought it might be from some movie. I "watched" The Ring once (let it play in the background while I did stuff on the computer; the movie didn't hold my interest).

At least there's no countdown, though. :)

Yay! Good to hear! :)

Guh...I've gotten those damn calls too, but at least I knew it was my brother trying to prank me.

What *is* it with that damn movie that makes kids so stupid? Haven't they heard of caller ID? [rolls eyes]

(randomly, your Dilbert icon is a beautiful thing. Everyone should get the smiting they request!)

It's a joke from The Ring, a movie that is particularly scary, but also mimicable.

Silly kids, up all night watching movies! They should be in bed by then. :)

Does your phone company offer *69 service? If so, and the person calls again, do a *69. When the kid's parents answer, let 'em know what's going on. That should stop it right quick.

That is a REALLY good idea.

Another possibility is changing the answering machine to pick up on the first ring, turn the ringer volume down to zero and have the recording say, "You have reached (phone number). Due to recent prank calls, I am screening 100% of calls. Thank you for your understanding."

You might use that during the day too if you try to nap.

Er, I posted too soon and didn't express my support for the *69 idea correctly. I mean I think it would be a great idea to do that NOW, assuming you haven't gotten any more calls. It's still the last call right? And if you callback during the day and not the middle of the night, you should get the adults not the kids...I am assuming the kids were home alone or something to be on the phone at 2am.

Good idea! Alas, I got a call from the vet's office since then. But next time! Yes yes.

Hee! During the day, I never, ever pick up the phone -- the answering machine gets everything! (I answer the phone for a living, the very last thing I want to do when I get home is deal with the phone!) If I hadn't been so startled by it, I probably would have let it go, yeah.

Thanks for the idea! :)

Oh, that's a good idea! If they do it again, I will! Bwahahaha!

Thanks!
