Surprisingly hectic morning...

It's a cloudy, dark morning... almost gloomy. We've had nothing but bright, bright sunshine for months now, so the deep shadows were a really nice change. I was very much looking forward to my morning walk. I was just finishing getting ready when trucks started rolling by on the street outside. They were blowing their horns. All of them. Continuously as they drove slowly up and down the street.

Buh?

I stuck my head out the door and noticed nearly all the cars were gone off the street. Then I remembered: Sometime this month our road was being closed again, so they could complete that resurfacing project from June. I asked some stranger who was standing on the sidewalk if it was today (he was watching the trucks as if in charge of the whole process) and he said yes. Eek!

With shoes in hand, I ran out the door, jumped into my car, and drove off the street while I still could. (Boy, driving with bare feet is odd!) As I drove down the road, I tried to see the little sign they had posted (a hand-written one, one meant to be seen by people walking, not driving). It said something with "8-2, 8-3" on it. I hope today is the day the road is fully closed, not just the day that all cars need to be off the street! Not just because I left in such a rush this morning, but because if the road is closed I can't go home for lunch. Bah! I usually plan so much better than this! (And blech! I got to work a half-hour early! Ugh!)

As for context, all FFXI characters can attach a note to themselves, and anyone who checks them will see it. That one belongs to the Japanese crafter who tried to talk to me last time.

They're doing construction at a major intersection near me. It's making driving quite a hassle because the next best main road goes by a mall and a freeway onramp, so rush hour traffic is pretty bad. :/

The second line is a list of kanji for elements.

Fire->Earth->Water->Wind->Ice->Lightning->Light->Dark.

Since that element ordering doesn't make any sense to me, I can't guess at the first line!

That ordering is the order in which the days go by in FFXI. Fire is the start of the week, then all the way down to Dark. :3

That kanji is the kanji for "yukata: an informal cotton kimono for summertimes.

So "yukata nakutemo" (even without a kutaka) you can still 'get' a ranchuu, which wasn't in my dictionary.

Hm. Maybe they're saying something about whatever 'ranchuu' is supposed to be... Ranch? Wrench? XD Well, the yukata part makes sense, because ingame there's new yukata items and such... Maybe he's talking about the new event. Even without a yukata you can still do it? No idea.
