Work is (once more) going into an ultra-sucky phase. I won't be very accessible (by email, LJ comments, or chat) during normal work hours.

Non-FFXI people: These were what I was fighting the other night. So big! But I kicked their asses. :)

FFXI people:

CTY chatters: I won't be on IRC for, well, a while. Days. I might pop in now and then to try to keep from going insane, but work is going to suck and I'm going to hate life, and I won't be able to do other stuff for a while.

PG people: We still on for tonight? If so, what time are we meeting up?

Tonight's plans, in order:

Login, hit the AH.

Ram Hunt: Assuming BK and company are successful, I'll go out and tan hides for them for a couple hours.

Wall of Dark Arts: Once the newest LJ member, [livejournal.com profile] basyx, logs on, I'll return to Sandy and he and I will go and do that part of the rank 5 mission. I'm told it's fast and (hopefully) easy to sneak through it.

Something with PG: Bas logs on late-ish, but we should still be done before normal PG start times (8-9-ish?). I should be available after that. (Though potentially braindead by this point. :) )

Can you actually play FF X with other people?

FFX? No. FFXI? Yes.

FFXI is the online one, so tons of people play it at once.

The only thing that might be a problem is sometimes (usually) there are orcs guarding the wall and you have to get behind them, drop invis, and get in.

Once you're in tho, getting out can be tricky because of the guards you can't see until you zone... so a warp scroll or some alternate means of evacuating is advisable. I had Fyerio teleport-holla me out.

I'm hoping someone will be there fighting the orcs so we won't get aggro, but that's probably too much to hope for. I'm going to try to remember to cast Blink on myself when we first zone into the area, to help once we have to drop invisible.

Yes! I have a scroll of instant warp, all I have to do is remember to bring it!

Thanks for the info!

Blink's not a bad idea. Stoneskin is even better. If I remember this right you have to go around a corner and into a little "hallway" to get to the wall; it's possible you could cast blink and stoneskin on yourself, re-invis and then go around the corner.

It also seems like you should be able to pull 1 high level person to whack the 2 orcs for you. I'm not sure what the levels of those 2 orcs are anyway, you and Basyx might be able to take 'em.

Stoneskin! That's another good thought. I should use it more often. (Too many spells!)

I was going to post this so you would see it but you've saved me the trouble...Verity and Aellan will be out of town tonight hanging out with Button and Marten, so I think a linkshell event tonight is pretty much a lost cause.

Personally, I think I'm going to park myself in front of the Olympics to eat Japanese takeout and watch the women's all-around gymnastics event.

Sorry to flake out on you...hopefully next week.

We did Wall of Dark Arts and Castle Oz-whatsit last night. So just two big chunks of rank 5 stuff to go. Good luck! Lots of cool cut scene goodness.

It's work! Work, I say! Work demands all our presences at a sinister after-hours celebration.

But next week if we own it we could take a stab at a meriphitaud level 30 Garrison on Thursday...

Try being taru sized!

When I was fighting them the other day (Russet and I were duoing to get my WHM to 20), I was attacking from behind. It looked like I was attacking their left front leg; I was actually standing under them.

I was impressed!

Eeek! And risk being stepped on by one? I felt small enough being hume-sized! :)

Was it hard at all to fight them, considering your level?

I'm asking because I think there's a trend in most of the FF games considering size. The biggest monster isn't always the worst threat; look at the cactuars and tonberries! If I had hit them at low levels in VII, VIII, or IX, I was dogmeat.

It wasn't a hard fight, but more because of the area than the size of the monster. FFXI is a much, much, much bigger world than any of the previous games. In the older FFs, there was usually one or maybe two areas to level in per level-range, right? So when you were starting out, you had a small choices of places to fight to get stronger. In FFXI, there are many choices of where to fight for each level-range.

In FFXI, the same monsters show up in different areas, just with slightly different names. So if Yellow Blob shows up in the newbie zones, then Chunky Blob and Big Blob can show up in the teens area, and Green Blob can show up in the highest level places -- the "same" monster, but with very very different levels of power. (Though they have different names, they look exactly the same.)

Did I explain that in an understandable way? Work is eating my brain. :)

Pretty much. ^_^

I think I've cheated so many times, I've forgotten about the land limitations in the earlier games. Bad me; I'm so evil.

[whistles innocently and hides away cheats] ^^;
