thistlechaserOrder: Slashy stuff first, new screenshots, screenshots from Friday, general FFXI stuff, then anime.
Slashy: In movies and TV shows, sometimes I get that "Oh my god, there's something going on between these two!" sort of moments. I don't know what causes it to ping with me, but it happens now and then. Months back, early in my time of playing FFXI, I saw a cutscene (mini-movie) with these two characters: Wolfgang and Monberaux. From the second I saw them interact, it hit me: There was something going on between these two! (And I wasn't alone. Seems as though many people thought that same thing.) We don't get to see the characters too often, but every time we do I get that same slashy vibe. But why? I took this screenshot from a cutscene this weekend. (Players: If you read the text, spoilers on the CoP opening plot. If you don't read the text, you'll be fine.) I've studied and studied that screenshot, but I can't put my finger on it. It seems like their body language is saying "Hey, we're having a relationship!", but I can't put my finger on what exactly... So slashers, my question to you: If you look at that picture, do you see just two guys talking? Or does there seem to be something going on between them? Or is it impossible to tell from just a static picture? I hate to think I'm just projecting what I want to see, but how could that be? We see tons of characters interacting, and this is the only time I've ever felt like something more was going on between two...
On to the new screenshots!
This was a big weekend for me! I got two of the items I really, really, really wanted! After long months and a couple million gil, I got my bonecrafting shades! Woo woo woo! (Of course, as soon as I could leave the bonecrafting guild, I went and contracted myself back with the leathercrafting guild so I could get the special crystals! I suck.)
Second item: Drool, drool, drool. I wanted this staff from the very first time I saw it! Until Sunday, I had only seen it for sale once, and passed it up because of the 200K pricetag. I kicked myself every day since then. When I saw it in a bazaar on Sunday, I snatched it up! And it was "only" 51K! (I would have willingly paid the 200K, so this was a great deal for me!) Yay!
Lastly, before moving on to the older screenshots: I've been trying to get a good shot of my beloved great sword, but because it's so big, it's hard to get a good shot of it in action. But here's a shot of me wearing it! It's bigger than me! How very cool is that!
These were meant to be posted on Friday, but my hosting went down. By now they're probably not new to many people, but hey! They're pretty to look at even if you've already visited some of the places!
Non-CoP: Spooky! I love this shot of the crag. Dark and spooky!
Barge and Carpenter's Landing - It takes you on a little trip to no where! Hello riding in a circle!
Dock at Carpenter's Landing - It was a half-hour wait for that darned boat, so I was especially annoyed when it didn't take me anywhere!
I would love to spend my RL vacation here. The beaches! So beautiful! Just amazing.
The water looks so so so real! I could die a happy person if I lived there.
The Manaclipper -- Odd boat. I like the old ferry better.
Freaky new monsters! Apparently they "link like hell" (to quote a LS member), so be careful.
On the Manaclipper. The sky! So blue! I love the new areas so much.
General FFXI stuff:
I love playing Dark Knight. I love it, I love it, I love it. I'm a different player while playing it. While White Mage me cowers in the back and hopes not to be noticed by the monsters we fight, Dark Knight me runs into the middle of things. More than that, it doesn't seem to be a night unless I die at least once! (How different is that? When the thought of death made me tremble as a WHM?) I LOVE the fact that It's not only okay, but it's almost part of my job to die! So long as I take the monster out with me or make it so weak that everyone else can finish it, me dying is fine and dandy! (The only downside to it is that I have to make a long run back out to join the party again.) I love love love that relationship with death -- I'm not quite seeking it out, but I sure as heck am dancing with it!
There's one other big difference in playing it: I find myself watching the damage numbers very closely, and grumbling when someone actually does more than me! (Darned Ranger Draque! :) )
Since the new CoP areas are capped to level 30, I'm forced to play WHM in those areas. It's very... depressing. Not only do I not enjoy it, I've lost my touch for playing the job. (I want to watch the battle animation and hit things! Not stare at the HP bars and ignore all else!) Since WHM is my only job at or over 30, it's the only thing I can go in as.
Anime:
I watched FMA 49 this morning, which of course means there was a new one out to be downloaded. 50 is currently downloading at home. Is anyone else less than satisfied with these latest eps? It seems like there's little going on but them standing around explaining the plot and the Deep Meaning of everything...

The water in Bibiki IS great. It makes the water in Selbina and Mhaura look even more like a giant vat of teal Jell-O than it did before. And that's saying a lot.

So true! I can't believe how awful the water is there! The world has so many details, but it seems as if the water was just painted with one color, one straight line of it. Sometimes the ferry is even above it!
