So cold, so very cold

This morning outside: It's cold enough to see my breath! Brrr!
This morning inside: The air conditioner is on high enough to make the papers on my wall flutter. Brrr brrr brrr!

Insanity. Why can't we have a warm day here? Why do I have to be cold while sitting in my coat?

Brrr.

I guess it doesn't help that I got only 1.5 hours of sleep last night. Excuse me while I fall over dead. While I try very hard to avoid using caffeine to wake me up/keep me up, I started my morning with a protein bar and a Diet Coke. Soon after I felt okay enough to actually get ready to go to work. (Exercising was so out of the question it was almost funny.)

I think my eating has actually gotten worse, which I almost thought wasn't possible. I need to make more efforts with that.

I love this icon so much. :) I'll be sorry when Christmas is over and I have to switch it out!

FFXI: I <3 my new great sword! Hellfire Sword! With it I'm actually being a "real" DRK! (No, not missing on every swing. Shut up, Aurian. :) ) Even on non-critical hits, I was doing double damage of other folks. <3 <3 <3 Finally, I was useful! And (though rare) sometimes my crit hits borrowed hate for a moment! :) Heehee.

On the scythe end of things, I'm still using Cruel Scythe. While I like the "impairs evasion" effect, it's now almost 10 levels under me, so I'll probably be upgrading it before we party next. (But even 10 levels below me, I'm not unhappy with its damage.)

Even better than those two things, I'm not unhappy with how often my hits land. I think the jack o'lanterns make a big, big difference (the +10 acc on them). I can't wait to hit 40 so I can wear my two sniper's and still eat jacks! (+20 acc, baby! And I already have like +14 dex -- 2 dex = 1 acc, so that's like +7 acc there! So at 40, I'll be +27 acc! Eee!)

Wow, at least I wasn't cold for the short time I was babbling about FFXI. :p

Lower level does not = bad. Many times a lower level item is superior to anything close to your level.

I had this issue for a while too. Kept thinking everything had to be close to level, but kept finding that the items I had were better than anything else.

Choose for effectiveness and not level. n.n Like with Rng? I'm still using a level 16 bow at level 29. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, does more damage than it. At 30 I'll upgrade, but 14 levels? Gah. Sometimes the level of an item just does not matter.

Yeah, that's why I'm still using level 14 rings! I need to do more checking befror I decide for sure, but I think there's a better scythe to upgrade to...

Sounds like the Crimson Blade I have. It's what... level 45? But it has a +5 INT, and well, after doing magic bursts for 300+ of damage on the mid level spells, I am /not/ complaining. That's a lot of damage for non-ancient magic. o_o I won't be dropping that sword until I get my chappeau, which will make up the slack of losing the sword for something that does more damage.

.... Even then, I think I will /still/ keep it, for macro switching. :o

And I really, really like the Impairs Evasion ability. It doesn't seem to hit every battle, but once it does, I definitely notice my hit rate going up. So, Thistle, if you think of yourself as mostly there to do damage, rather than doing support, well, that one ability is supporting us all very nicely.

Likewise, Aurian's acid bolts rock. It really should be my job to be firing those, but since I can't hit yet, I'm very glad to have her covering for me. If we're losing her before long, I'll have to make a serious effort to get my Marksmanship up.

Don't be ashamed to use an "underleveled" weapon if it's the best available to you! MNK, for example, has some pretty large gaps between it's good weapons. (Impact Knuckles at 34 until T. M. Hooks at 50. T. M. Hooks at 50 until Shiva Claws at 65.) There are some other steps in the middle (like Cross Counters if you have 3M laying around for them), but not necessary. Just so long as you're effective :)

Yeah, I think there might be a better one though. I forgot to check last night, but I'm intending to try to hit Jeuno tonight and check prices and stats and stuff.
