In the past two days, I've been doing a task at work which requires very little brainpower, so I've been listening to the FFXI soundtracks a lot. A whole lot. The more I listen to the music, the more I wonder how I could even consider doing anything else with my free time. :p Evil, evil SE.
(And in the moments I take my headphones off, I'm hit by how really, really bad damned co-worker's music is. Painful. Awful. How anyone willingly listens to that crap is beyond me.)
Sandy's music is just so amazing. Eee! It's so proud! Formal and proud and strong. Even though (ICly) I'd never really be accepted in Sandy, it so totally feels like home to me. I was able to go back there today (finally put the last of my Noct stuff up for auction in Jeuno), and wow. It really was like coming home. :) It's amazing that a game could create such feelings in me: My chest was warm with comfort at being back.
(It strikes me that Sandy is like Japan in some ways. A foreigner is never really, really accepted there, right? Maybe on the surface things are friendly, but deep down everyone knows you're "other". In Sandy, it's just not so deep down. :p )
On harder game-notes, I... I think I need a 13 million gil item. That not bad enough? It went from 9 million to 13 million in days. Who knows how high it'll go before I have anywhere near that money! But a peacock charm has +10 acc. Between that, my two sniper's rings, my leaping boots, +10 acc from my food, and the other HQ stuff I have, I'd never miss! No "loldrk" here! I mean gah! That charm, my rings, and the food alone would make +30 acc!
(Edit: It strikes me that I think I read something about there needing to be a balance between ACC and DEX. Or was it DEX and something else? That one very high thing (like ACC) would be worth less if the other wasn't that high. Hmmm.)
Now how in the world would I ever get that much money? It's not impossible (I'm up to 1.8 million now), but... it'd be hard as hell. And the Noct market is being flooded, so that won't be a source of good income for much longer. (Need to look into the Seer's line... Don't think I can HQ it, but I wonder if there's profit in non-HQ?)
Must consider this more...

Date: 2005-01-22 07:30 am (UTC)lolDRKs have no concept of hate-management. They spam Souleater, Last Resort, and Berserk before their weapon skill and don't understand why the monster suddenly wants to eat them in a bad way. -And- they miss. Sometimes, you just can't hit the damn thing, I've had a few monsters like that, I just could -not- hit them.
Accuracy is important, but it's not going to make you 'gimped' if you don't have EVERY bit of +acc equipment you can whore yourself out for. Balance it with DEX and STR and you'll be a good, well-rounded DRK. :3

Date: 2005-01-23 02:52 am (UTC)I was sort of considering sushi, yeah. Once I finish the 70 or so jacks that I have left, I'll probably give it a try -- especially if you'll be nice enough to make it for me! :)

Date: 2005-01-24 08:14 pm (UTC)A few nights ago, I was cheating on my WHM52 static, to catch up from being as far behind others. I got a verbal party invite from a White Mage who was looking for a replacement for herself. When I arrived, I discovered that Verminarrd, a well-known casino operator, was the party leader. While I'd heard one negative experience about him as a player, I'd also heard that his money-making operations had netted him a pair of Sniper's Rings +1 and a Peacock Charm. He's an Elvaan Dark Knight, of level 52, and it seemed like he wasn't having major problems with hitting. I believe he was also wearing a Life Belt.
Here's the thing. Thistle, you find that you steal the hate if you do too much damage, right? You have abilities which make you do more damage, but tend not to use them. When Verminarrd used his Soul Eater, he sometimes managed to not get hate, but if Last Resort was also thrown in there, he'd start getting smacked around hard.
I'd think that if you can already steal the hate, you don't actually need more accuracy. It's better to do more damage by hitting harder or more often than by using Soul Eater and damaging yourself, I suppose. But I suppose it's easier to not have to micromanage those extra damage abilities.
In any event, Aurian's right. Loldrk is when you have the ubergear and abuse your abilities. Or even if you don't have ubergear, and abuse them.
It was very interesting partying with a different group from my static. It was pretty similar in jobs (4/6 the same), so seeing a slightly different setup was enlightening. Keeping the monsters from hating me too much is always my real challenge.

Date: 2005-01-24 10:23 pm (UTC)My only issue with casinos is that they add spam to crowded areas. Most casinos have switched to /say instead of /shout, and while blacklisting the operators is easy, people's "dice" rolls cannot be filtered out. If people want to take the odds presented, and the casino operator is honest, he's not doing anything unethical with the gambling itself. I just don't like the spam.
