/fish /fish, *buy* *buy*

I've started and deleted this post a few times now, but this time I'll finish it! I know I will! I believe in myself! Because "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."! Or just because I'm bored. One of the two. :p

What's more boring to non-players than a post about FFXI? How about a post about fish on FFXI! Because I'm rather insane, I ran home at lunchtime to try to buy fish. See, everyone doing this quest needs 10,000 of these fish, so they sell really fast and/or at higher prices than they should. I got lucky and got 300 of them! Woo! (Sorry, philia, but they would be gone in minutes if I didn't snatch them up as soon as I saw them.) Not only that, some random stranger /tell'ed me asking me if I wanted more! He had only 4.5 stacks of them, but still! Yay! So I'm up to like 1330 fish now. Such a small number! 8700 more fish needed!

It strikes me that I have no clue at all what I'll do with this special rod once I get it. kelen says he made a million or so since getting his, so I know there's money out there, I just have to do the legwork into finding out where. Also need to level more, as even in "basic" places like Batallia, Sauromugue, and probably Qufim as well are still aggro to me. (Hate sneak-fishing! Not relaxing at all!) That makes my head-long rush to get the rod even more funny, huh?

I didn't go to Windy and pick up the Eco quest at lunchtime like I usually do. Need to do that as soon as I get home from work. Too much to do, too little time! :)

I was rather surprised to make as much as I did.. and I know I'm not fishing in the 'good' spots. c.c Mostly I discovered quite by accident that the fish I was skilling up on sells for 4k apiece, and the other fish I catch there sells for 20k a stack. o.O That with the selling of fish that Aurian didn't need for her cooking rapidly made for gil. The only drawback is that the 4-5k fishies don't stack. They do however sell pretty fast. Been shocked as few others catch them. o.o;

As for you.. I'd suggest Nebis and shalls once you get the rod. Both are fish in areas where the fished up mobs you can handle. Nebis will likely bring more gil. I caught four stacks in a couple hours on five stacks of bait just yesterday. There's tones of profit in fishing. You just have to be careful of the idiot bots who LOVE to drop the price insane levels from time to time.

Woo, thanks for the info! I was poking about Clanwind and stuff this afternoon as well. I'm making lists and such, but it's a challenge without access to current AH prices! :p One day someone will write some sort of javascript interface thingie that lets you check the AH from a website...

I think we're infecting each other. Aurian, who said she never bought a fish and didn't intend to unless she mined for money first and used only that profit, is now complaining about my buying all the fish.

I know I keep saying it, but: I really need to stop buying so many. It's just that even when buying in "massive" numbers, it seems to make your total go up so slowly! This morning I snagged 45 stacks at 4K/stack... and they only made my total go up a few hundred!! When I paid about 150K! Gah!

I've burned through more than 500K so far, and I'm only at 2300-ish fish. I really, really need to stop buying so many... (But just fishing for them is so slow!)
