Following Beanie's lead...

It's nice having all this in writing, it helps to see and plan stuff. I'll cut for the disinterested.

Armor and weapon

12 slots for armor. I bought an under-level-cap belt (Merc captain's) and a new mask (iron, I think), so I have a piece of armor for every slot. All are my usual HQ/top-of-the-line stuff, except the mask. I went with the belt cause it has some VIT where my belt I had been using had only DEF. (We'll have a PLD tank, but I'm still thinking hate will be an issue for me. I'm not intending to hold back, we need to make the mobs (especially the first one) dead FAST.)

Haste (enchantment) belt.

I'm going to only bring my scythe, not my crossbow. This breaks my heart, and I'm not 100% sure of the decision yet, but I think it's how I'll go. While my xbow skill is high (94 as of last night), it's not capped. I don't think I want to sacrifice a space for it and for a stack of bolts.

Why am I not sure about that yet? Two reasons: 1) When using my xbow, I make mad TP. Last night I nearly kept up with ranger Beanie TP-wise. 2) I could use bloody bolts, which have a drain effect.

But the questions are: 1) Would I be able to hit a much tougher mob? 2) Would the drain effect work?

As far as I can tell, using the xbow does NOT make my delay in re-swinging my scythe longer. What I usually do is hit once with scythe, then one shot with xbow, scythe, xbow, scythe, etc.

If you have a thought on this, I'd be more than happy to hear it!

12 armor slots, 1 weapon, 1 extra belt. 14/60.

Meds

3 hi-ethers (I should probably bring at least 1 or 2 more, and might grab more if I have space. My absorb spells take 33 MP each, and I'd like to do 3 per each of the 3 mobs (MND, AGI, VIT). I have about 200 MP total. I'm also going to drain as much as I can, and perhaps aspir when it switches to BLM mode.)

20 hi-potions. (I'm really not sure if 20 will be enough. Might buy more if I have room.)

Reraise scroll.

Reraiser.

Echo drops (stack), eye drops (stack).

Prism powder (stack), oil (stack).

43/60

Food

3 jack o'Lanterns. (Since I have 5 more slots than most people, I think I'm going to stick with Jacks. Since hate might be an issue, I'll be happy to have the +10 EVA they give along with the +10 ACC.)

(Need some Au Laits and some Yag Drinks. None bought or decided on yet. Checking Alla now...) Wonder how long the fights will last? I heard 30 minutes? I should get 3 Persikos au Laits then. If the yag drinks stack with the au laits, then probably 2 of those...

51/60

So it looks like I have a little room left. Maybe I'll bring my xbow, 1 stack of bolts, and fill the rest with... hm. I guess I better bring a warp object? I'm leaving my LS pearl behind.

I really feel like I'm forgetting something...

Big questions! Can you use Au Laits and Yag Drinks at the same time? And both are okay with food?

If you see anything questionable on my list, feel free to tell me!

Edit: Ha ha, I had "food" listed twice. Edited for correct number count.

Edit 2: I MUST make macros tonight! Lots of items to macro in! Drop from macro bar all spells I won't be using! (Or just make new bar for this, like I did in Promy runs.)

What do yag drinks and au laits do? *has wondered since you first mentioned them* (And the prism powder, and the oil, and...) This game sounds totally different from every other FF I've played, and I'm not sure I'll ever /want/ to play it but it's fascinating reading your reports. *g*

Yag Drinks give the effect of Refresh (MP restore over time)
au Laits give the effect of Regen (HP restore over time)

I don't have the exact length of time / regen per tick memorized. Other than Persikos au Laits last 10 minutes and Yag Drinks last 3 minutes.

Like Beanie said, the drinks and au laits restore different things (MP and HP, in those cases). Prism powders make you invisible and silent oil makes you silent (just object-form of the Invisible and Sneak spells, for us non-mages. :) ).

I'm glad my posts are interesting! I'd hate for them to be just spammy. :)

Woo... okay, more questions:

Is there equipment or accessories one can equip that gives you status effects like regen, invisibility, etc?

Also... Silent means you can sneak up on things? What's the name for the status effect where you can't use magic?

With the newest expansion enchantment equipment has been added that can give you status effects. Each item has a certain number of charges and you have to use one charge to get the effect. Being silent isn't for sneaking up on things. It's for sneaking past them. ^^

Items and equipment are much different from older games. Lots of new status effects as well. But the status anomaly of being unable to cast magic is still "silenced." Echo drops, strangely opposite of most other things in this game relative to the older ones, does still cure this status(I'm aware the English translation in FF6 was echo screen.) The effect that makes you silent is called "sneak".

There are a few pieces of equipment that will give status effects like those, but they're uncommon and tend to be expensive. (I can craft some of them myself, but almost never do -- they cost more to make than they sell for.)

Actually, "sneak" is when you move silently, and "silenced" is when you can't cast any sort of magic. And sneak only works on mobs that detect you by sound -- if you're dealing with a sight, scent, or "truesight" (can see through sneak/invisible/deoderize) monster and you use sneak, then you're screwed. :)

ACK! I'm forgetting au Laits! I knew it looked like I had too much room! >.<; See? You did find something I'm missing!

Re: Last night. I wasn't trying very hard to TP ^^; I was letting myself swing my Axe a lot to get skill up, so that might be a little deceptive. If you were bringing bolts, I would say bring a stack of Bloody, Acid, and Blind. But... as I said in my post... I'm sure I'll land*them if I shot them, but I'm not sure if the effect will actually go off =/ Against tougher mobs it can take an awful lot of bolts to get the effect to trigger and then it might not stick for long 'cause it was resisted >.<; That's what I'm afraid of and why I'm just going to use Bow and Scorpion Arrows.

Au Laits and Yag Drinks stack I'm pretty sure. (Since you're stacking Regen and Refresh, in terms of effect.) I'd take the 10 minute au Laits 'cause it may very well be a full 30 minute fight. Yag drinks won't last nearly that long though, so you'll have to judge when best to use them.

Oh, glad I could help then! (The darned things are VERY expensive. 10K each!)

Re: Last night. I wasn't trying very hard to TP ^^;

Shhhh! Let me have my illusions about being able to keep up with your TP. ;)

If you were bringing bolts, I would say bring a stack of Bloody, Acid, and Blind. But... as I said in my post...

I think I should have room for them all. Eee, this is so exciting!

If I'm guestimating costs correctly and what I want to bring, I'll be spending about 100k in medicines / foods tonight. I hope the stuff I farmed sold overnight XD;

Uh, yes, that's correct.. I was just practicing the newest RNG ability "Conserve Ammo", that's it! Nifty how often it goes off :x (Keke, I really was getting some nice Axe skill ups there. Right at my skilling range! I'd like to go back *_* )

I was getting great marksmanship skillups, too! I very much want to go back! Lin said she wanted to tank if she's online, so we could grab her if we needed another warm body, but I'm sure a number of folks would jump at the chance to go.

Au laits and yag juice do indeed stack. :)

Since Au Laits do Hp regen it appears as the regen spell icon (hp).
The Juice appears as (mp). :)

I know for me I changed out my staff for a low level club that gives spell interruption protection. Considering I am not going to be meleeing at all, and since I NEED to be able to summon, I figured that was the better option. u.u Hopefully 35percent protection + aquaveil will be enough. Even less worked in the avatar fights, so I'm figuring I'll be okay since I also have capped summonging skill. They claim the skill helps cancel interruption.

This stupid mission is ruining my sleep. @.@ I don't even know why! >.

Woo! I bought one au lait at lunchtime and need to buy two more. I can't believe they're 10K each! Now I can go buy some yag drinks, too.

You're not the only one. ; ; I keep not being able to fall asleep at night, too busy thinking about things I have to do to get ready or stuff I want to make sure to do in battle. I swear, I'm thinking/planning much more for this fight than I did even the first Promy run. (I have a secret little hope: I hope we're so well prepared that the fight is easier than we expect it to be.)

Same here. @.@ Of course those Promy runs were my second time through so I knew what to expect. This fight is also much more demanding on the party as a whole. As a kiter I HAVE to keep the mob occupied for even up to half an hour. @.@; That terrifies me.

Only thing I'm glad for is that I have experieced this in the form of the avatar battles and in soloing. Still, I'm worried. I hope I can pull it off and not let the others down.

If you were in my party, I'd so totally not be worried about you!

Hmmm. I'd be nice to have a timer of some sort (not really a stopwatch, something that would "ding!" every 60 seconds). If my drains are even a little effective, I'd like to do them as often as I can. Plus the 60 second cool-down on SA, too... Hm. (I know I'll be paying too close attention to the screen to keep an eye on my little watch-face.)

Now I can go buy some yag drinks, too.

Get the ingredients and I'll cook them for you (if you don't have the cooking skill to do it yourself.) I'm going to be making some for Nif and QQ tonight. Hmm... I think I'll have enough extra materials for 5 Yag drinks if Nif only takes the 7 that he asked for, so I could toss those at you :3

Date: 2005-03-18 11:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
I could make them and skill on them, but if you're at or near the cap, maybe I'll take you up on that. :) I'm trying to buy as much as I can instead of asking folks to make it, because everyone needs so much made! I'm a little more okay on money than some people, so I'm leaving the LS help to those who need it most.

Well, I'm already scheduled to do synthing on them tonight, so making a few more in addition to the dozen or so I'm making already won't hurt my feelings any ;)

I'm excited, but not nervous. I'll sleep well tonight if I can manage to get all the prep done that I have in mind (and having things laid out in my LJ post so I know what to do does a lot to put my mind at ease.)

It's going to be a hard fight, but also exciting. I know you're up to the challenge D, you've doing just as difficult (if not more so) things: Promy, solo avatars, Shadow Lord. Take comfort in your experience and your ability to be prepared!

My worry comes more from having Shadowneko as the other kiter as well. u.u Sorry, but he's awful. He's what will make or break our chances.

Seconding Draque. There are a couple people in both parties who will just Not Be Ready. I talked to Sivara today, and she's not getting even a fraction of what I am. I hate hate hate that either these less-prepared people will make us fail, or they'll ride our coat tails to success. Would you believe Sivara is wearing her level 30 cap stuff because she "doesn't have space" to get level 40 stuff for this? I so do not want to go with her...

I know this is a problem ._. Nif had a terrible time trying to figure out parties because of jobs / personality. SN was on IRC yesterday and absorbing advice for those gathered on ways to make his THF/NIN kite more successful. Hopefully he took some of it to heart and will apply it if he deems it useful advice.

I'm with D and Thistle. No matter how prepared we are, I'm not sure we can win if one or more of our 'team' doesn't/can't carry their weight. I hate to be mean... but Shadowneko can barely even pull/SATA correctly. How is he going to kite? v.v

What the hell. He's almost my level and he can't SA/TA properly, you say? He's what? Fuggin' level 56? If he gets invites half as quickly as me for parties I'll be pissed off. At least I can do my job right and -- no, it must be a joke. Surely after 26 levels of having the SA/TA combo he would know how to do it properly... Dear god please tell me you're joking. I may cry.

After dealing with him and hearing about him this weekend, I'm utterly surprised he can even log on successfully. Go read his post on the CTY site: he admitted that he couldn't tell the mobs from the PCs at first!!! Sure they were semi-human shaped, but not very close at all! And Draque (or someone) said he had to be shown which was his (left/right issues...). The kid needs to uninstall the game and never, ever come back.
