To buy or not to buy...

I had decided not to buy a permanent account, but now I keep reconsidering it. $150 is way, way more money than I want to give LJ, but... permanent! Not everyone is permanent! But $150 is (at the current prices) six paid years. Will LJ even be around in six years? If it is, will I still be using it? (That's not impossible. This journal is almost three years old now.) What else do you get with it. 100 icons? I don't even have 50, and I don't feel like I'm lacking in icon options. So I suppose I should resist. I'm tempted, but...

In other news, I've been able to keep up with my flist and email. I have a little online time in the morning and late at night, so I check things then. Not enough time to play FFXI though, and I'm missing it muchly!

Hopefully this post will go through. I haven't been able to get to half the sites (usually including LJ) I try today...

Actually, with the icons thing (though I think it's just 50), it's only about 4 years woth of LJ. I know I'd totally do it if I had the money. And they have been around for some years now-I want to say since 2000, though I'm not entirely sure if that's right.

But then, I don't seem to have the trouble with LJ you've had, so it seems like it would be worth it to me.

Don't buy. 100 icons will shortly be offered to paid accounts as well, which they only announced after starting the sale. >:O

Yeah. I wouldn't be doing it for the icons (I'm happy with the 10 or so I have), so that leads to the question: What would I be doing it for?

It all comes down to whether or not you think you'll still be on LJ in 4 years -- 6 if you don't bother with extra icons. If you'll still be here, it's worth it.

You only use the "I licked you!" icon anyway, so the extra icons thing is moot. ;)

To be honest, I don't really think it's worth the risk. Even if in the offchance your journal survives to hit the nine year mark (not impossible, maybe not even horribly unlikely, but I wouldn't hold my breath), you'll just end up saving a little money - not even all that much in the long run. I don't think it's worth the risk. :)

I think you're right, but I did it anyway. I'm silly that way! LJ will probably shut down tomorrow, then I'll be sorry.
